Start-->settings-->configurationscreen-->system-->hardware
Look for processor, videocard, RAM/memory, etc.
Also make sure you have the latest graphics driver for you videocard, etc.

Even if you think your pc should handle it fine, you can still post them here :)
And do what Peacer says and clear your pc of all crap. Also make sure you have the latest drivers.

* ThomPhoenix waits for detailed specs to show up
Also "I've done all that" doesn't tell us anything; what did you exactly do?

Okay.
First, we don't know if you if your pc is good enough :)
We've had lots of people saying "my pc is able to run it", and yes, in most of those cases the cpu and memory were sufficient, the graphics card almost never was though ;)
Secondly you said "I downloaded the patch and all that", but did you also remove all crap from you pc and update your drivers, as we told you?

I think because it helps troubleshooting to post specifications.  For example my machine is:
Dell Dimension 8400
CPU: P4 3.0Ghz
Ram: 1G
Video: ATI Radeon X300 128MB
OS: Ubuntu 6.06

The hardware on my system is adequate per the specs of the game.  The OS (a debian derivative) seems to be supported.  But when I first installed the game it would crash and lock my whole system in an unrecoverable state.  I went to the Ubuntu forums to find out what could be wrong.  I realized I was using an older and open source version of my video driver.  When I took the trouble to find and install the proprietary ATI driver and config console I could then run the game just fine.

Let's say I couldn't figure out why machine was crashing and had to ask for help.  By posting the specs above, people could start asking relevent questions to help me solve my problem.  This is almost always why people ask for system stats and specs.  It has nothing to do with how good someone's computer is.  There is always a crappier computer than yours and on the flip side there is always a machine right around the corner that is going to smoke yours into oblivion.

Updating your graphics card drivers can get rid of lag - are you absolutely sure you have the latest?

Here's the process:

  • Go to Nvidia's driver page.
  • In the box below "Start Here" choose "Graphics Driver," then "GeForce and TNT," then your operating system, and click Go.
  • Download the driver, but save it instead of installing immediately. Remember where you save the file!
  • Right-click on My Computer, and click on Properties.
  • Click on the Hardware tab, then on the Device Manager button.
  • In the window that pops up, expand the "Display Adapters" selection.
  • Right-click on your graphics card, and select Properties.
  • In the next window, click on the Driver tab, and choose uninstall.
  • After the uninstallation you will have to restart your computer.
  • After the restart, open the driver install file you downloaded, and run it.
  • All should be well.
