Let me show you

Quote
* Yolki  gently grips the dagger handle and demonstrates the 'ignorant fool' slow stab 'for special occasions'...WITH A CRYSTALDIALWISE TWIST!!!
Yolki grins from ear to ear in a manner resembling Emporer Palpatine as he fries 'young Skywalker'

Baldur, please try it again and add you own version of the TWIST!!!

going back on topic are we, young padawan's...  :P

unfortunelly krans usually have the intellegence of a peanut, they arent know for being the smarter race last i checked, since they were created in yiliakum they would speak yilian most probably but this doesnt exclude them from having theyr own language

Well I dont think they should know all languages, as this will make the language thing pretty pointless. They should have thier own language and the standard English that everyone can understand.

This is obviously the best possible system, why argue it further to confuse things.  The only thing we should do now is sit around and wait for the devs to start implimenting it.

Yes, it would be good if the Dev's do implement it. I hope.

I thought more about this and these are my language suggestions:

All races would speak their own language, xacha and ylian although both human have different origins so they would have different languages.
Ylian
Xacha
Stonebreaker
Hammerweilder
Demurian
Nolthrir
Klyros
Enki
Ynynn (a cross between Diaboli and demorian so each race would understand some words in this language)
Lemur

As well as each of their race languages, every character would speak the Common tongue (regular english.) There would also be languages for religion:
Talad
Laanx
Black flame
(atheists have no organised religion and therefore would know no religious language.)

Characters would have the option to train in any of the race languages from any NPC of the race which they wish to learn, religious languages would be trained only after the character has proved they are worshippers of that religion. Characters can understand as many race languages as they wish but may only understand 1 religious language as this is a gift from the deity/entity they worship and will be revoked if religious beliefs change. S well as race and religious languages other languages may be learned at characters discretion in order to fit in with guild allegiances, these would be vocation orientated and would be defined something like as follows:

Crafter
Trader
Mercenary/Warrior
Theif
Beggar
Alchemist/Herbalist
Mage

This would allow many different forms of interaction which would define even more tightly the PC as a unique person with unique skills, this is my idea as it stands now, if more ideas come to me I may add to this.

maybe this was too much on the subject i dunno. perhaps it would be better to have characters knowing only the 'common' tongue and their own race tongue, i just thought this would be a way to create a more detailed language structure in yliakum. the religious language idea was a replacement for the allignment languages used in many of the tabletop rpgs, and i thought the vocation languages would just be something different, for example different factions of crafters could argue over the different prices they would be selling steel stock for without the consumer knowing about it.  and for theives etc i saw it as an idea similar ot how the thieves are in the david eddings books featureing sparhawk (i forget the series' names) where the thieves are a living community with laws of their own within society, regulating themselves so as not to upset society TOO much lol

Maybe this could be implemented if the devs take the 'more basic' version on board, to see how it goes.

It's a great idea  :D
but i think people would like to learn these languages....
i think there must be 3
laanx
talad
black flame
because if you'd make a race language it would be far too difficult
you could insert accents though ^^ for instance: krans are dumb... they tend to use wrong grammar  :P
but also i think ( half on topic sentence follows  :) )
that you wouldn't be able to choose your religion in the beginning
e.g. Talad created the lemurs so lemurs believe in talad (the in game talad lol :p )
this way you know which language you're going to have...

But they are religions...

I think it would be better if the races had languages, because otherwise all Yilians that are Lannx or w/e, will all know what the Krans that are Lannx are saying.

It will be better I think If it is just of race, but I agree. It will be more complicated.

basicly what they are saying is that each race has its own language, and that you will need to build up in stats of a certain language to even understand them.

But the one big problem is...if your a city were everyone gathers (like hydlaa) then are we just going to see "blah blah blah" from other races.  Thats the part that will be difficult to figure out.

And also what about guilds??

There are many guilds out there who have every single race.  Like TDC (The Dragon Council)  We have our share of humans, lemurs, krans, dwarves, elves, i don't think any diobli..but you get my drift)  Its improtant for a guild to communicate, would there be a feature where guilds would be able to talk to other members of different races???

edit----just saw the part about common tounge
