The UnOfficial "What do you want to see in Steel Blue*
« on: September 17, 2006, 08:27:32 pm »
Steel Blue=version 4 of planeshift, right now we are on version 3.

I would like to see a whole lot of new monsters, more quests, maybe another city. And maybe something like Horde vs Alliance pvp like in WoW but it has to be on a PvP server.

Share your suggestions!

Before we get more cities we should get the rest of Oja. I mean, we don't even have all of the one Dsar we have right now! (We are still missing the Steel Bazaar.)

Heh, I haven't even been to Oja yet. Sounds cool though. I still think they should add more quests, I can rarely find one (excluding Harnquist).

There won't ever be a "PvP" server - this game isn't about killing things, but about roleplay. And to have a "Horde vs. Alliance" deal, you need two forces constantly against each other, while all of our races live in peace. The only enemies they have are the wild beasts.

We have over 30 quests in the game at the moment, and that number will expand all the time.

Then is it possible that monsters can raid cities?

Not only possible but ultimately planned :] Here is a post from Talad explaining some of the goals for the future:

Quote from: Talad
A mmorpg is made of many things, and surely one is the "aim" of the game. Each of us (players) can have different aims, like socializing, roleplaying, checking what new technology (fog, shaders, etc...) PlaneShift can run on your PC, etc...

But these are goals of the player, not the ones of the character.

About the aim of your character here are a number of points:

- We discussed the "aim" many times in the past and come up with a number of points. We have plans for providing a lot of inspiration for your characters to have something to do in the world of PlaneShift. We care about the problem, but it's still a bit early to enable it fully
- A character can search fame and popularity by creating new powerful guilds that will increase in wealth and members, creating powerful alliances with NPC-managed guilds and merchants and with other guilds
- A guild or group can explore the Stone Labyrinth trying to find if there is a world "outside" the walls of Yliakum
- The hydlaa city and other main cities have to fight for the incoming invasions from the Labyrinths. New creatures, new techniques, new tunnels are dig to attack the city and no one is safe without brave heroes to defend the cities. (In the future you can expect to find cities conquered by evil NPCs)
- A char can decide to become expert in many different areas, like a certain way of magic, or about the death realm, or about ancient lore and create a shop/activity about it
- Many high social positions will be available to expert players, like vigesimi, octarchs, guild masters, etc... reaching that position will be hard but doable.
- The game will have a main plot unfolding. I cannot say much about it atm, but surely it will be a big "goal" for all the characters.  Some major quests that will expand the game and will change it permanently.
- We want to introduce many abilities for characters to change/edit the world, with jobs, creating new items, or building new houses.

As you may see there will be plenty of goals or aim for your character, we just need these new features to be created. Those are surely not ready yet.

Steel Blue definitely won't make all of these possible, but it will be a step in that direction.

:woot: Thats insane! Hope to see Steel Blue go in that direction :D

No need to quote an entire huge post just to reply with a single line.

I'm sorry, but this thread just seems rather pointless. If you have serious suggestions, they should be in the wish list. Other than that... what's the point. Is someone going to say, "No, I don't want more monsters, quests, or cities. I'd actually like for there to be less of anything?"

If it came down to me, both a larger and more detailed world, new exotic towns and (lengthy) roads going through interesting places like canyons, dried riverbeds, fallow lands, mountains or forests, alongside an enhanced economy encouraging players to travel between those towns.

A better balance between strong and weak characters, as well as a harder gameplay, forcing players to team up instead of going solo-hunting, maybe an implementation of the "suspend death" idea discussed in the wishlist...

**note. I fully understand none of the following features will be in SB.

Farms. NPC owned. Players are hired by NPCs to tend and harvest crops. Good job for newbies, as we all start out a peasants anyways. /weed /till /pick <This is not ready to harvest yet. Do you still wish to harvest?>

Quests for entire guilds. (All your members must <do this> to gain more favored trade rights.) Or maybe own land.

More advanced options for menus to enhance roleplaying without limiting levelers.

Paid jobs that your character goes to while you are offline. (they have to be doing something, don't they?)

/tossball $target

scrap running while in combat.

Limit potions while in combat.

Face foe while in combat. (could be an auto option for this)

Some semblence of colision detection while in combat. (Passing through your enemy? Come now.)

Tents as items (or modes for characters. Server sends out 'tent' id, rather than 'fenki') One per player and only while online out in the wild. Increased HP regen.

Slower HP regen as your life gets lower.

Power declines as your life gets lower.

Sometimes pass out before death, and the option to give mercy. http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=25574.0

Upload character descriptions. http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=25459.0

I agree with phineus that this thread is utterly pointless and should be moved to the wishlist, where one can profess specific improvements or suggestions.  A whole slew of suggestions such as these, quite practically will take several years before they're implemented based on the rate thus far.  And I think years might very well be an underestimate and that is not criticism in the least, but a realistic perspective.  I've been playing the game for 9 months and the game is sufficiently large as is where I haven't accomplished everything there is to accomplish.  It may take me many more months to "finish" all the leveling.

But with work and family on the horizon the game will be irrelevant to me in the future so its not practical for me to dwell on big visionary future advancements.  Any wishes that I do make known have to do with the now, like a recent post about the communications bar.  http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=25473.0

Prior to this I relentlessly focused on leveling up so that I would participate in these grand tournaments that used to happen on occasion.  Alas, i've yet to participate in one or have seen one implemented recently so all that has been for nought.  It also became an obsessive addiction which i found to be utterly pointless.  This isn't a numbers game, period.  You'll hear this time and time again-- "its all about the roleplay."  And that is so true.  Develop your character online and everything else is secondary, essentially a hobby.  Such hobbies would be crafting, developing a niche in the economy, exploring, doing quests.  Another hobby that I will undertake will be to make music videos or mini movie sagas... its a lot of work, but i think far more fun than looting a gladiator 24/7 for money.

Are there more than 30 players that have played more than 2 years consistently?  Perhaps, and even so, this project will have a big turnover ratio in terms of players over the years, that it isn't realistic to think about very grand changes unless you see yourself playing this game 3-4 years from now.

Not that I want to stop people from dreaming, but people should perhaps review what has been done since the start of the project and correlate that to time and then get a better sense of what may happen in the future.  That way people should stop clamoring for mounting flying creatures that poop magical manure napalming forest lines and herds of ulbernauts, who also poop projectile feces in the air in the form of a missile defense shield (which probably isn't far off from the one we are spending billions of dollars in the US for).  Wait, HUH?  I mean it *could* happen, but not anytime soon... and that's the point.
