Things to influence the world around you
« on: September 21, 2006, 05:29:34 pm »
I like PS, but there is still missing someone even concidering it is an alpha.

I would like to see a ways to influence the world. Little and big things.

Little things I would love to see would be things like monsters that aren't looted often get more loot. It shouldn't be to hard to make it so a NPC has a killcount and then have it the when it remain on 0 for a certain amount of time what he loots on avarage is raised. This would make that looking for far away monsters would have a benefit, but would also mean camping something for more then lets say a day wouldn't be a good idea, becuase finding a new one would probably be better.

Obviously things like rouges should be a bit more standarized and the maps a bit more filled for it to be fair, but think this could definately work.

Having roads appear where player often walk and have dirtroads that aren't walked upon slowly turn to grassland again. Probably a lot harder as I don't believe PS is atm really build like that, but this would make that the roads in the wild actually start to run as the people would be walking and think that would really give people the feeling what they do effects the world. Specially when updates will change behaviorpaterns it would be fun to watch.

Something bigger to be part of.
As one person it will obviously be hard to change things, sometimes it is also fun to be part of a group of people and do something that you can be proud of for a while. Explorers for example did this by going to places noone thought was possible and taking screenshots. Seen several do this by dropping items n the word of letters. People love to do things like this and it would be fun in my opinion to incroporate more of this in the game by giving the player choices in joining some factions and given challenges to accomplish this. For example you could have a free land and have the ranger faction and a farmers faction.

Obviously if the rangers faction wins you get more forest and more lootable monsters, if the peasantfaction wins next update it will be made farmland instead of forest and the foodprizes drop. Well strange exaple perhaps but you get the idea I hope ;)

Ofcourse in the end I would like to see you being able to build your own houses. Starting obviously with things like guildhouses, becuase guild survive longer then the avarage player specially if it has a guildhouse I would think. The ones with the big houses will probably have a lot less trouble finding new members afterall.

But also being able to chose how your guildhall looks like. A library for the knowledgeseekers. A semigardencomplex for the rangers a fortress for the warriors? It would give people more way to show their identity as a group that way aswell.

i vaugely remember someone saying no player houses (could be rong). but the guild halls would be kewl. I want one for my guild :)
The road thing is a good idea but say noone uses a road in a long while u should still be able to see the road slightly.
didnt quite get ur other ideas. if i understood right. if a monster isnt killed for ages he loots more? i like it

far as i hear player housing might even be ready as soon as Febrary 29th ::)

more monsters to kill... well that sounds like something for when there is more map to cover. For now there are so many monsters that there was a guy just now requesting/suggesting to make the ones who go unlooted for long periods accumulate more loot ;) .... maybe bd could use a few, but the road has its share...

As far as the extra loot, everyone must be getting enough loot each as it is, or they wouldn't take the time to pop into forums... but it made me think about that animal food chain thing... perhaps if the killcount goes low enough, following your idea, a humanlike npc's cash could increase by a teeny tiny amount per ingame day, or the ones like ulbers or consumers could have swallowed other animal parts.. perhaps even weapons or tools... maybe reduce the quality a bit from digestion... The ulbers with weapons inside does seem like a nice realism addition... but to work better maybe they should have killcounts in reverse-- for every "X" players an ulber kills before dying it can have ("Y") random weapon(s) looted..

Grass in the roads? I understand where you're coming from, I think you're also implying paths created in grass by much walking.. it sounds nice...but it also sounds like something way in the future. way. or at least way compared to housing... I imagine it would put a fair bit of strain on the server in areas like the gold mine... and i know nobody wants an extra bell or whistle causing lag when fighting an ulber...but in concept it is cool if doable.... if it were it'd also be neat to have a trainable tracker skill to /see & then know what race passed [kran, xacha, rogue, treppor etc] with a trail to follow or avoid.....

As far as a playerfaction's superiority determining what an area becomes?... you can always try roleplaying it... otherwise i would guess that would be after transportation...--anyway I am sure my kids will like it; after i concieve them, thay are born, grow to roughly my current age & download that update... ;D

Well the paths thing I don't think wouldn't be that hard unless the maps are really fixed in design, but that in my eyes would be a kind of strange approach seeing you need to keep options open for things like house building.

The paths shouldn't form to fast or dissapear to fast so how often would it need to update? Once a week? And tilll that time all you would need are some places were the devs need to keep track of how many times a player passes there. This can be done rather easy so the only question ofcourse then is how hard it will be for the maps to be changed by a program or if it needs to be done manually.

If at this time it needs to be done manually perhaps it's even a good idea to start with something like this for the devs to work up to when players can actually go and build houses as those would change maps probably even more drasticly.
