Updater.jar not accessing files?
« on: September 26, 2006, 04:44:37 pm »
Is there another way to get the updated files, other than running the updater.jar? I have tried updating for 3 days with no luck.
Thank you for any help on this one.

Try the game updater, first remove the file: version.dat.
Glad to help.

That looks like a problem with your internet connection. Are you sure you were connected to the internet at the time?

Most definitely connected at the time. I have been using email and browsing while the updater was running.
There was no version.dat file after downloading 3.0.15. I downladed updater.jar as well, put it in the same folder as the client.
Running on:
Mac OS X 10.4.7
2Ghz Intel Core Duo, iMac

Client ran before the new 3.0.16 update.

Dowloaded the .dmg and the updater.jar, again.
It has the same errors when attempting the upgrade. Upfdater.jar runs - Updater does not run, through terminal mode either. If it something with being behind a firewall, then I need another option.
So, back to my first question - Is there another way I can download these files to upgrade to the 3.0.16 version? It cannot be that difficult to replace files.

The answer is actually... no. You need to use one of the updaters. So, let's figure that out.

Where are you running Updater.jar from? Are you an admin?
Try downloading the Java installer (which is the updater + one other file) and using that.

Yes, I have an admin login. Internet access is functionaing normally.
I cannot get the updater.jar to work.

I have dloaded the 3.0.15 version again. Mounted the .dmg, copied the folder to my desktop, downloaded the updater.jar for Mac OSX 10.4. Put updater.jar in the folder.

The updater app does not open, so I then tried updater.jar - the updater.jar runs - but I get the same result as my first message. If this is something about being behind a firewall, I do not what it might be. I am able to download other documents, applications, etc. from my browser and from ftp apps.

The firewall is a Cisco product.

Any ideas that I need to ask an IT administrator?

Well, you can try to go through a proxy... Hrmm...
Also, try running Updater.jar from an empty folder. It can get the game all on its own. So don't even bother getting the DMG. Just stick Updater.jar and folder and give it a whirl.
