Problem running the executables
« on: September 26, 2006, 08:01:32 pm »
Tried searching and cant find anything else on this problem.

sys specs:

AMD athlon64 3k
WinXP SP2
DX9c
GeForce 6800GT x2 SLI PCI-e
2gb RAM

---------------------------

Just download the latest version and ran the updater,  it popped up a window with just a black background my processor usage hit 100% pagefile usage went up slightly and the computer started to hang off and on till i alt-f4'd it.

Tried the updater(recover) and process appears in memory and porc usage again hits 100% but doesnt start to make the computer freeze up.

The computer freezes with the updater, the psclient and the pssetup but never actually crashes or produces an error message. but all just show a window with the application name, the minimize and close buttons and a black background.

I've tried running it with no other applications in the background and as few processes in task manager as i cang et away with and still the same problems,  the memory usage on the applications while running never goes anywhere near maximum only the processor usage.

I've tried changing game profile settings on the graphics card aswell as turning everything up and down as far as possible.  I'm already running the latest drivers for my card and directX9c,  i have no problems running any of my other games only this one.

If the recovery-mode doesn't show a command line window, something's seriously screwed - and I don't know what it could be.
- Have you already tried to run it when you turn off the 2nd GFX card?
- Is it the 64bit or 32bit version of WinXP?

Wrong.
Fear is their most important weapon.

The windows binaries are meant for 32-bit systems. For a 64-bit system, you will need to build the program from source. Please visit here: http://planeshift.cvs.sourceforge.net/*checkout*/planeshift/planeshift/docs/compiling.html and select Windows - MSVC. If you need more assistance, please visit the irc channel: #planeshift-build on freenode.net.

I noticed this myself starting with either .3.014 or .3.015.  My Updater (Recover Mode) ran completely silently with no command line window.  This really bugged me since I could not see what the updater was doing.  So, I just added '-console' to the command line in the shortcut and it is fine now.
