Help?
« on: September 26, 2006, 11:19:15 pm »
All right. After a few days of internet problems, I attempted to log on to PS and was greeted by a lovely shout: You are not running the correct version of PlaneShift.

So I updated, and was greeted with this at the beginning loading screen (the one with the enkidukai, dermorian, kran and ylian heads) in the upper left corner: http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/97/ohshitca5.png

Ignoring that, I attempted to log on anyway, and wham: http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/5484/shot12zo3.jpg

I uninstalled, reinstalled, and was told to update again. I did, same thing happened.

Umm... System... Right...

Windows XP
Pentium 4 CPU, 3.00 GHz
2.99 GHz, 256 MB of RAM

I don't know how to check my video and sound card thingies... If you need that stuff, someone wanna tell me how to find them out?

Help would be fantastic :3

start>run>type dxdiag all the info comes up in that window.

you could do with a little more ram, that'd smoothen gameplay, once it works, and try updating graphic card drivers? should help

Nvidia.com for nvidia ones obviously, and i dont knwo the sites of others, just google em i guess.

The "No Hardware Acceleration" message comes up when you either don't have the right drivers, or a powerful enough card. Though you have been playing before - did you have to reformat, or have you made any large changes to your system?

Karyuu : Well... Our computer was completely screwed a few days ago when mom attempted to get the newest version of Norton without correctly uninstalling the old one... She spent four hours on the phone to fix it with her new friend Ferdinand. Now whenever we're on the internet it is slower than it used to be and it doesn't scroll smoothly, it sort of jumps in spastic chunks. I haven't tried to play PS since then because our DSL kept kicking me off at five minute intervals, which then required ten minutes to get it working again. Not worth it. I spent Thursday to Sunday with a few friends, when I came back the internet had stopped the spastic kicking, so I tried PS.. And you know the story from there.

Keyaz : I tried the run thing but it's yelling at me so I'll try it again later :3

remember the day your ma screwed it up?

if so

start> all programs> accessories> system tools > system restore

follow its instructions and look for a date before the problem occured, try restoring it to that date (if there is one)

with any luck that might fix your problem, though you'll probably have to redo the norton thingy

Hey there Jj, long time no talky.  Anyways, once you get it all better, uninstall crappy norton and get a much nicer program that updates daily, plus is free:

Just remember to setup the time to have it do its daily update check and you're good to go.

Keyaz: Mom already fixed it. Four hours with Ferdinand, remember?

Neko: Windows, Internet Explorer, and Norton all suck, according to everyone else. However, seeing as how I am the youngest person in this family, deleting our antivirus and installing a new one without permission is about as smart as sticking my hand in a meat grinder and flipping the "on" switch...

i meant the system restore would revert the entire system back to what it was before the thing broke, when the client and graphics were working fine for you. butmmh, try updating drivers and stuff

Having to redo Norton would piss mom off greatly :3

Main Driver: vga.dll
Version: 5.01.2600.0000 (English)
Date: 8/29/2002 05:00:00
WHQL Logo'd: Yes
Mini VDD: n/a
DDI version: unknown

Fascinating... Yet I don't know what any of it means..

I don't think you mentioned your card type itself though?

That driver looks quite outdated - have you tried updating it through the card manufacturer's website?

@ Karyuu:  It appears to me that the bigger problem is that it is the generic VGA driver and not the driver for the specific card at all.

@ Jjairr:  Did your PC maybe come with a CD that has anything related to 'graphics driver', 'video adapter driver', or something similar printed on it?

Yup, that's it. The driver doesn't support the rich features of any newer GFX card, so every rendering has to be done by the software (through the CPU) if supported. No matter what CPU you have, it will be slow since it's not optimized to do that.

Check dxdiag again, it should tell you what type of card you have. Unless it's an onboard card, it'll be easy - just get the drivers from ATI if it's an ATI or nVidia if it's an nVidia - there's pretty much nothing else out there these days.

Okay so... This?

Name:
Manufacturer: n/a
Chip Type: n/a
DAC Type: n/a
Approx. Total Memory: n/a
Current Display Mode: 1024 x 768 (32 bit) (1Hz)
Monitor:

Heh...

And at the bottom it says "The system is using the generic video driver.  Please install video driver provided by the hardware manufacturer."

EDIT:

All right, something is a NVidia GeForce FX 5200, card or driver, I dont' know... And it turns out it was disabled... So I enabled it but nothing, Kii had me update the drivers, still nothing. She's having me install it again... We'll see....

EDIT AGAIN:

Kii fixed it! YAY KII!

Thanks for all your help everyone. I looove you. I want to huuug you. I want to kiiiiss you. *Cough* Yeah.

Glad that you got it working again.   \\o//  Write down what you did before you forget in case you ever have to do it again.  Good job, Jjairr.
