the germ of a guild idea, is it worth developing
« on: October 01, 2006, 07:49:41 am »
I have an idea for a guild that is still fairly nebulous and I wanted to put it out there to see if it could be filled out. What I envision is a loose grouping of characters that are at best somewhat eccentric oddballs and at worst are prone to raging lunacy. Some may be paranoid and think that everything that happens revolves around them, others may speak of visions of other worlds or make prophesies of things to come. One may be obsessed with bugs. It doesn't matter what their strangeness is or how it manifests itself as long as the player develops it for themself. All members will be expected to function normally most of the time and work out some set or sets of circumstances that trigger their decent into whatever extreme of behaviour their character exhibits which may be pretty mild.

Is there any rules-based reason that such a thing would not be allowed. Is there anyone who would be interested in participating or even just watching such a thing if it is allowable. Some of you will have heard my half-baked origin of Kran story and this is the kind of thing I want to encourage ... crackpot ideas of how things came to be, faulty comprehension of how things actually are and outlandish predictions of what is to come. This is something that seems like it will take real creativity moreso than "Oh no I'm evil, I don't care, I can do what I like" or "Darling we were meant to be together ... Kiss me you fool" which appears to be most of what I see. Hackneyed and cliche.

You just described half of the characters I have met. No, with the second paragraph as well, you describe all of them. xD

The idea is sound. One of my characters would fit right in. That is if the trees or rocks tell him to do it. He is an empathic poet that says the oddest things at times. Did he tell you he was dead once? Or was it once the dead told him he was? Or, wait... who are you? The grass thinks you should not walk on it so much.

Hehheh thanks. As it happens, anyone who would be in this gathering would have to accept some verbal abuse. I was in front of Harnie last night and some players started their typical I'm evil, I'm gonna kill three innocent bystander participants and then get killed. I believe it was some vampire skit as I saw two characters deliberate about going down into the sewers at daybreak just previous to this incident. Anyhow I used this occurrance to go off my rocker and start railing about how it was all the ochtacrch's fault and that things were going to have to change yadda yadda. Well one of the gothicettes started asking me in main who I was talking to (nobody, anybody, no rsvp required ) which I used to rant a little harder. Then she had the gall to say she was going to "phone the psych ward" in main. When I /telled her that that was a little OOC don't you think she telled me back "I'm evil I don't care, I can do what I want"  The point is if you act like a nut you will get treated like a nut, so it is not for the feint of heart. The little dig at the gothicas was just a gratuitous swat at silly RP. Whatever tickles your fancy I suppose. Who am I to complain?... someone who likes to complain

Hmmmmm.... No and yes.
1. You tick off a bunch of people alot and bound to get flamed by somebody but well in real life your bound to run into them so go ahead.
2. Your better off not being a guild but a group.

I have just about settled on a name for this thing. I believe I shall call it Original Order of Creativity. We will be known as OOC for short. I'm thinking we will need a president (me of course) a Secretary, 5 board members, members in good standing, members in bad standing and guests. We would meet approximately once a month which due to time dilation would work out to about once a week real-time. At the meetings we will have a lecture by one or more of our members on whatever their area of specialization happens to be or a guest lecturer. Meetings will be held in crater valley just outside Ojaveda and ulbernaut will be served if it can be arranged. Elections for the various positions will be held once a year at the annual general meeting.

Mmm, I do like the idea. It is basically what I was aiming at here http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=25132.0 and here  http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=25340.msg280444#msg280444

Is difficult finidng people who want to play crazies. It is hard work doing it full time. Good place for alts if you wanted a break from the normal routine though.

My main character  has a few screws loose... He MAY be interested, though I dislike guilds.... Still if this plays out well, (which I see no reason why it wont) I'd consider it.

Good idea though, but... a guild, meh, I see little point for a bunch of crazies to become a guild, though yes it would be interesting.

Unfortunately there is no other in game mechanic for managing groups in any other way. I also dislike the Guild concept for what I am trying to do, but is the only functional way of having a 'group' in game. <recruit> That said, you are all free to contact me IG if you want to play  :whistling: </recruit>

no other group then guild

I wonder what the group tab is for now if guild is the only group.  ???

hehe, just joking... But mainly I don't mind having a tag, but its the guild chat that bugs me... ecspecily in large guilds where theres like 81 different conversations all the time, and you might not even be in any of them... you're just trying to pl or rp and the /guild tab is going crazy...

Though I don't like the idea of a open insane guild or nut guild, just wierd, how do you recruit for a gguild like that? :P

I think again it would be interesting to watch play out, but I wouldn't bet a farm on it's sucess. ;)

Mmm, agreed. IMHO group chat is always OOC (unless telepathy exists?), as are /tells outside of whipsers and written messages. I find it amusing running into a large guild meeting group and they all appear to be standing around in complete slience. Recruiting for this sort of guild can make for some very interesting (and sometimes lengthy) Rp..

[edit: Oh, and the guild tag is optional - guild can be set to 'secret']

yes im aware, but most guilds have a reason they're brought together, like.... explorers, to explore yliakum, protectors, to protect people, dwarvesbane was to slay all dwarves, but what are these guys' goals going to be?...

Thats my only real question, and it is vital, because what is your guild going to do?... ya know?...
