It could be. Software steers the fan, now imagine if some malicious virus got to the motherboard's, or the Hard drive's. Imagine the heat?

Though it's not much of a threat, I have yet to see someone blowing up because of a code malfunction in the system.

Maybe not codes, but they could've planted some explosive thingy in your computer, and when you press a key it goes boom. =P
