That was just a simple explanation but should be enough to tell that Hackers are healthy, Crackers unhealthy.
that's only partially true, well, depending from which point of view ;) crackers as opposed to hackers, yes, the are evil, mostly use tools they dont understand to gain access to a system (script kiddies). but there are also a different kind of crackers which im very fan of: copy-protection crackers, i love them. the silliest copy-protections are inventend by even sillier companies which they sell for the most silly prices to software manufacturers, just to see it cracked even before the software hits the stores  \\o//

why i hate copy-protection? not because i do not want to buy the game (i buy most of them), but because im sick of paying 40$ for a game and then not be able to install it because of the CP - most prominent for such "behaviour" is surely starforce. nevertheless, companies are still trying to "protect" their goods with that bull, and cracker will hopefully always try to crack that.

~shakes his head~  now i have seen an article posted by a few hackers a while back where they acutally made a bomb (with a digital controller) and set it up inside a laptop and hooked it to the serial port if one didn't use the correct password a program accessed the port and sent a command to detonate the bomb..  BOOM!!!  there went the laptop.  Great anti-theft just so long as you didn't really want the laptop back but unless you have access to mil-spec explosives nothing impressive enough to actually do damage to anything but the laptop.

You would be surprised to know what you can do with a bit of chemistry knowlege and a few substances you can find around the house, at the chem shop near you, or even at the drug store., besides, you don't need alot of power if you use a directional fragmentation charge but... whatever, DON'T do that at home. Even with mil explosives [which are alot more stable than the home-made ones and you don't have to make them, process during which you can take a trip to the nearest cloud] you run the risk of blowing yourself up.
