The reason because Captcha wasn't added before is because we're using the latest version of SMF, which is 1.0.8
And 1.0.8 doesn't have Captcha, where you have to recognize a code in a picture while registering.
Captcha will be integrated in SMF 1.1 though, that's about what we were waiting for. There's no need to mod your SMF when a soon to be released version will have that feature you need. But then this bot came by and illori pointed out that there is a mod for SMF which adds Captcha, so I forwarded that to Acraig.
It wasn't added before because it's not usual to install a new forum and immediately start modding it, for most people.

When SMF 1.1 is released it will have Captcha standard, and there's already a mod for 1.1 which enhances the built-in Captcha even more

It's okay But if you think that 3-5 PMs like that is bad, try receiving 20-something from everyone forwarding theirs to you and going "WTF???"

What's worse is that email notifications are sent out when you get a PM.   So people are getting this stuff in their inbox from acraig@planeshift.it now.   I've updated the forums so it sends from noreply@hyldaa.com now but still I expect to see several emails now wondering why they are getting this from acraig@planeshift.it

I also did a mass replace on some instant messages based on a couple of keywords.

As some one that is using smf 1.1 i just want to let you know that the latest version Does have a captcha added to it  but it is a lot worse then the mod and a lot of people are using this mod instead of what comes with SMF so we will just have wait till they fix the captcha that comes with SMF 1.1 before it is usable.

I just got a message from Long Duc Dong, a user that needs to be banned now.  A way to fix this would have a minimum of posts required to send a PM, maybe 5 or 10. I don't think that is unreasonable and would help curb this crap since admins don't see to have great response time...
