Ores Etc
« on: October 04, 2006, 08:28:16 am »
When I asked for the quest from Harnquist, he said that is should bring him two steel rocks.
I know that you use Iron and Coal together, but what do you put them into? A Furnace?

I hope that this isn't asking too much info on a quest... :-\

If you know please help,
Infernal Fury

By the way, how many types of ores can you get?

You got it right, the furnace is used to melt the iron and to combine coal with it to obtain steel. However, a quicker way to find out this info was to ask a player ingame, in a RP fashion. ;)

Sorry to revive an old topic, but...

NOT TRUE!(even though this morning I thought it was) You replied to him in less than three hours. I've been asking about this subject in an RP fashion all day and have not yet recieved a real response from the other players. All I get is the coal to iron ratio (which no two players that you ask in a row will agree on), people asking for directions to the iron mine, and endless strings of "Do you have level 5 metalurgy?".

Using the Furnace and later using the Stock Casting equipment is part of the Metallurgy Crafting Path. To begin your journey towards mastering this discipline, you need to complete 3 relevant Quests from Harnquist - you will not be able to successfully use the two items of equipment until those quests are completed. It takes alot of iron ore to be Mined from the ground and processed in order to rank up your Metallurgy Skill to Level 5, when casting steel stocks becomes possible. There are currently 2 different receipes for making steel, one will produce coal sludges, the other will produce steel sludges. These are but intermediate products that require further processing to turn them into steel stocks.

If you are not able to make steel stocks yourself, either ask a player ingame if they are kind enough to make steel stocks for you, or try to buy some steel stocks from a player who is willing to sell them to you.

- running PlaneShift Mac OS X Tiger (10.4.11) Client, on an Apple iMac G5 2GHz PowerPC processor, 2GB DDR SDRAM, an ATI Radeon 9600 graphics card with 128MB VRAM, a 20-inch active-matrix LCD widescreen display, and a 250GB Serial ATA hard drive... so what's your excuse, huh?

Good point, this problem persists alot.

That's why i recommend joining a Very strong guild, Not as in strenth or power, but as in Organization.

They could give you all the knowledge you seek and could help you through your ventures.

People nowadays arn't as helpfull as they used to be, That's why Idoru has established the Wonderfull guild called Elemental light.

Look us up some time :D

Seriously... I thought it was bad before... But this...
I suggest the statue of Laanx gets turned into a statue of Parallo <3. An NPC could never replace the huge hole he left in my heart when he died  :'(

Now I'm getting tired of asking people ingame what I'm supposed to do to make steel. I've tried asking several people and all I proceed in doing is making dust with their recommendations. Others tell me I need a book to use the forge and that the Renquist guy gives it to me after I finish the quest, but people tell me I can't finish the sword making quest without that book. Now when I ask for help, I get either more nonsense (bless the people who are still nice enough to try and help others out) or I get a tell from someone that tells me to stop shouting and get the %$@ out of the game if I can't figure it out for myself. I could really use a little help here.  :sweatdrop:

Perhaps drah's guide will help you out here? :)

Smith: No, My Lord. I am attempting to conceal it.

Also note that not everyone (young or old player) knows everything. I mean not every player is out to make their character a smith, fighter, miner, hunter, magic-thingie-person.
For example, /me! I've been playing PS for maore then I year now and I don't know nothing about making swords and using the furnace [except for making dust :P ]

Ok, I think I see my problem, I didn't get the book thingy from the Harnquist guy. He gave me the quest, but no book. Is there some way to fix that? :detective:

Perhaps you have the wrong quest, Lady C? Harnquist offers several - and one of them may be a prerequisite before the quest you need. Try progressing through them one by one until he gives you what you require.

If on the other hand he did give you the right quest, or at least a quest that requires you to have an item from him as well and you have not been given it, try discarding that quest (if you can) and asking for it again.

I did the apple quest and then asked him for this quest. I tried discarding the quest but the game won't let me discard it. I'm not sure what to do about that. I thought that might fix the problem only it won't let me discard.  :sweatdrop:

Are you sure the second quest relates to metalworking directly? :] What's the name of the quest you have now?

The name of the quest is called learning sword making.
