Failure to stay logged in game world.
« on: October 05, 2006, 04:20:14 am »
[Windows XP, Broadband]

I downloaded Planeshift earlier this morning, and I've had trouble with it every time I attempt to use the game.
I left the game alone for awhile, hoping it'd go away, but the problem won't stop.

The problem is, I can boot up the game fine, create characters fine, and even load the game world at an okay speed, but as soon as I enter the game world, the game begins to lag (really badly, I might add) and after anywhere from a few seconds to a minute, I get one of two messages;

  • The first message I will get is runtime error. Soon after the error message appears, the game closes itself.
  • The second being "Planeshift: DBGHELP.DLL not found," also closing the game immediatly.
Is there a way I can solve this, or am I just going to be unable to play this game?

i just reinstalled PS myself after breaking my drive doing stuff and haveing to reformat...anyways. mine was getting a runtime error as soon as the GUI was loaded, i went into setup flicked load all maps back off and ran the client, logged in, was ok, logged out, flcik load all maps back on, and it worked.

it's probably not the same problem as yours, but is a possible scenario,

anyways, can you state your comp specs?

run>dxdiag will help if you need to find them out

I'll try that out in the morning (it's only 8pm here, but I'm extremly tired right now). I also read this, so I'll try lowering the graphics res.

I'm also getting kicked off all the time.  This problem started yesterday.  Sometimes, I'll be on for 10 seconds only to find that none of my chat commands are getting through, indicating that I've been disconnected.

Yesterday there was some stuff eating up processor time [99%] on the server, and yes, that created alot of lag. There are some investigations regarding this mater and, so far the only conclusion was that it was something that players did that was eating up resources.
Regarding the topic, it seems you didn't got a disconnect, you were experiencing a crash, and submiting a dump file would be a good ideea.

Hi Xhandur,

I downloaded the gam yesterday, and started playing it last night. All was working fine until a couple of hours in, i experienced exactly the same problems as you have listed here - combination of Run Time error and the Planeshift:DBGHELP.DLL Not found error. I tried a total uninstall, and then had file problems trying to reinstall. Finally got it to reinstall but had the same problems again.

It got late last night, so i ended up turning off the game and will try again tonight. It has been suggested that i try a new download, rather than retry installing the original download.

Ill let you know how i got on.
