Hello all,
I used to have a problem where the game would suddenly for no reason freeze my system once I was playing, after about 5 minutes. I poked through the forums, and someone had a different but somewhat similar problem and someone else suggested it may be related to sound.
I have AC'97 onboard sound (windows XP, radeon 9600PRO), so that's a good possibility.
ANYWAY, first try disabling sound (safest). If that stops the crashing, you can try enabling sound but reducing the hardware acceleration. This is in the "Sounds and Audio Devices" control panel, "Audio" tab. Push "Advanced" near the top, and look in the "Performance" tab. First try sliding acceleration to zero. Sound will be choppy, but it should work. I have mine working with the sound only one notch below full.
Hope this helps some other folks like me!
Cheers,
Jack
