Idea concerning weapons

>You have killed mercenary

Average Joe says: By the gods!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Alrighty... as the example shows, sometimes when you loot something, its almost a very good weapons... and then, you see words like worn...ragged...scruffy... etc etc... which ruin the slash to something like 1.00... anyways, my idea is... What if you could take weapons like these, and do serious repairs, like, more then just basic quality fixes, something that maybe would take longer, to make it not ragged, worn, or scruffy, ya know... repair it?

I can see this possibly requiring dis-assembling the weapon (seperating the blade and handle), heating and hammering the blade, quenching it and sharpening it on the wheel, maybe some work on the handle, and re-assembly.  It could be dependent on blacksmith and maybe even weapon making skills.

In the case of a very badly damaged weapon, there should be a way to melt it down for the scrap metal.  This would open up the possibility for scrap metal dealers.  I seem to remember reading something like this before tho.

What I don't understand is why we have two different systems for the condition of items.  How is it that we ended up with two - both a point system and a modifer system?

hmmm I agree with Zanzibar with the repair system the modifier system seems a bit strange. I mean the ancient one I can imagine I mean after so long the whhole dagger just comes apart and no repairing would really fix it anymore, but the ragged and such are kind of strange with the repairsystem we have., but repairing is still relatively new so sure it will all be tweaked :D

The only way i could make the present system work in my head is if the repair system was for the sharpness of the blade, the quality of the edge and perhaps a meassure of how badly the blade needs a bit of polish.

Eventually you could end up with a blade that is chipped, loose at the hilt, and old to the point that it looses it's ability to cut like when it was new.

I believe that weapons should both decrease in quality and run the risk of becoming broken and tattered and so forth - that way some weapons would be better as they last longer, and people will treat their expensive high-class weapons well.

Likewise that would make a repair system to bring ragged and ruined weapons up to 'normal' versions of the weapon. Otherwise all the looted weapons would be reworked and the economy would be inundated with high class weapons.

I think the systems should be linked.  As the condition of the item chances, its modifiers change.
