"The Volcano"
« on: October 14, 2006, 02:34:39 pm »
Well I got curious about this protrusion of rock... and soil. So tell me... Is this truly a volcano?? or is it simply an outcropping of peculiarly shaped rocks...and soil. Whatever the case, It's big enough (in comparison to other mountains found in the currently frequently explored area of Yliakum) to have a name. Of course it could have one already and I could just not have enough friends too tell me these things  (Ha!) or perhaps it is yet to be given one? Aaaaalsooo... what about "The Oja Road" and "The BD Road"... well they're roads... and I guess you could call roads by those names... but what about the terrain surrounding them?... Do they or should they have a name as well?... Also other landmarks could be named: "The pond in the cave", "The Waterfall", uuuhh... anything else?...

Well that's my opinion... and just think for two seconds... wouldn’t it be more realistic to have these things named?

So...are you asking about if the game has a volcano, or are you asking if there are landmarks?

he's referring to a certain hill between Hydlaa and Akkaio that goes up, has a few things on top, of which includes a dip, currently fileld with water, I presume.

yes it could very well be a dormant volcano, you never know ;)

The Oja Road, the area is called Ojaveda, and it's the Ojaveda Road. same for Bronze doors :) the waterfall is part of the Bronze doors region, so it currently falls under 'bronze doors' though giving them their own names would be nice, but things like the little lake in the mine tunnel wouldnt really be given a name, imo anyway

Righto!! and is that hill filled with water?? [I don't have the best of graphics cards...]

...perhaps we're talking about different hills... [but I don't want to get yelled at for talking too much about in-game... material.]

...theres a small hill with a pond on top between the two cities... however theres also a much larger hill with a much larger depression in it... that I don't believe is filled with water... but trees and such.

as for the 'Ojaveda area' and 'Bronze Door area'... I meant something more like... 'Ojavedan Hills' but much, much more original and... cool! ;)

What does that mean?? ???

ah that one.. well considering the very tops f it seem to be burnt and ashen, it very well could be, though dorment or extinct.. seeing as it has some rather nasty 'wildlife' in it ^^

 Quite! ;)

Well, If someone can confirm that these places don't have names... then maybe we could all engage in some interactive fun?... and by that I mean naming landmarks?

I call the mountain immediately outside oja with the ramp up the east side "crater mountain" for the depression at the top where two ulbernauts live. There is a bandit and a rogue (merc?) standing on a promontory there too. Perhaps that has changed recently, I haven't left Hydlaa lately.

Is it really that hard to gues? It is same thing as with guns, only here you have more obvious explanation.

No, it can not be an actual volcano, active, dormant, or extinct. Volcanos require HUGE amounts of heat and pressure from below. Ylaikum is a huge, artificial stalactite.... therefor there -is- no 'below'. There could be volcanic activities very deep in the Stone Labyrinths, such as lava spouts and flows, but not near the stalactite itsefl. That would be....bad. If it is meant to be a volcano, whoever came up with the idea has made a mistake.

As to having a name? Not likely for now. 99% of the settings are not yet figured out, so the name of a simple hill is not high on the to-do list..

Oh! well way to spoil our party Under the Moon!! :D Hah no I'm just kidding, I see what you mean... but I still think a provisional name would be good... nothing official of course! but just a nice original name to call these landmarks by. It sounds soo much better when roleplaying!

Edit: I'll make this clear here I suppose... as it was refered to in Monks post as a Volcano. We've come to the conclusion that the large mountain near Akkaio is definately NOT a volcano.

OT: Nikodemus, perhaps instead of telling him to grow up and go to school, you should have simply reminded him of the settings?  That's an immature response in itself.  :)

No, no, you misunderstood, i wrote maybe grow up. xP Naver called him immature. And well, yeah, maybe i'm immature if mature people are always clear in what they say. From other side, small riddles are fun. Maybe i should make them in more neutral way... so nobody will be touched.

*Nikodemus scrolls a bit to the first post*

Names for the places... would be great, but what i was always interested in is how different landscape elements formed. Because of water or maybe coz of the powerful magical powers directly from the gods? maybe wind? This brings another question, maybe the gods by creating the land used time manipulations? They were forming the land in this way in few days, but the outcome was like few thousands years of different kinds of errosion?
We could then have more ideas for the names. It wouldn't be good to call few things just like that. In real, each region, hill and peak has their story.
The story is very important in my opinion.
