Timer on Duel Challenges
« on: October 15, 2006, 05:10:56 am »
Give us a timer on duel challenges. Do you know how pissed off I am now because I lost 10 duel points when I challenged someone and Laanx killed me? When I challenged someone the second tme, it said I had 2 minutes left, so I waited about 5 minutes, then I challenged again and I got killed from that penalty. It's bullcrap that the time gets so screwed up that I'm pretty much scared to make a challenge now because it'll try to screw me over again in some way. Give us a timer somewhere so that I can know when to challenge again without risking being killed to figure out how much time's left. >.>

Please use a descriptive title, and avoid cursing and -highly- inappropriate word choices.

Here let me help you with that. "May Suno_Regin please have a timer on duel challenges?"

Manners might help you get your wish. I think demanding like this is your game will have the dev's not even bother to look at this thread.

I'm just pissed off right now. Because the time limit's screwed up, I lost all my points and continue losing. I need a timer so I know when I can challenge again. And they need to look at this thread to read it anyway.

Do duel points really matter?

Eh, not saying it's a bad idea.. Just, do they matter that much? You'll lose 'em in the next wipe :/

To me they do. Hard to explain, just I like to collect them, just like how I like to collect ornated weapons.

Duel points, another reason why cakes are made of sponge.

but seriously, the whole thing about duelling for points is pointless and just here as a temporary measure to keep some peopl entertained, dont expect it to be improved, expect it to be removed, as it should be done, duelling ideally is there for use as part of RP if necessary, nothing else

I can definitely appreciate your hard work in trying to get those duel points. We all ... that is those who understand how you play your characters, know your playing style in planeshift. You like to duel, and play the bully type character and that is strong and confident. Truthfully in game it is nice to have variety and you take on a role that all of us can interact with whether it be a positive or negitive experiance. That being said, it sucks you lost your duel points. In the end though there is nothing that can be done about that. Not to say that the devs couldn't change your stat's ..... but then if they do it for you, they will have to do it for everyone. I don't think that will happen but maybe they will note from your thread how frustrating it can be and make it one of the more necessary bugs to fix ... if it even is a bug?

The dueling timer is indeed made wrong. It is one of these features, which are supposed to stop not-roleplayers from disturbing roleplaying of others. As you can see it is now the other way.
At that time i tried to explain exactly the same situation as with Suno, but nobody listened to me. Maybe now... there will be done something about the timers, huh?
It is the same in trading, dueling and similiar, when you are sending request and someone has to agree.
The first time this person wont agree by accident, or maybe because will want to know few answers before agreeing... The second request will be locked and here we have wasted time. There is completly no alternative to do it the other way in most kinds of these requests-agreeing.

so

There can't be penalty after first request, but after second declined

give us visible timer which will count the time!

simple request, but really needed, to clean the mess which was made already long time ago.

What you can failure tommorow, failure today.

It's a sad day when you find yourself almost wanting a bug not to be fixed, just to spite the way it was reqyested. ::)

It's a flawed system.  I made the recomendation that a "Decline and Warn" option would be added to invitation windows, and a few Devs really liked the idea, but DaveG shot it down saying that anything I said about the system was automatically worthless since I was the reason he made it in the first place (which is a lie).

??

Thats pretty much verbatium?

I mean I understand the reason they are there - anyone who spans people with duel requests is annoying... but anyways no one has seen daveG in quite a bit - I know I havn't.  Maybe make a suggestion again if you really feel it is necessary.  Sometimes you can make a suggestion and hope that the disenting person doesn't show up...

From the conversation on IRC:

<DaveG> there used to be a horrible problem of people spam inviting/challenging everyone they see
<Kanalal> and?
<DaveG> I rewrote the system, and the people rejoiced
<DaveG> now, the spammers are complainging
<DaveG> the only valid issue is that the spamPoints don't expire more than once at a time
<DaveG> and as I have said, if I EVER get a complaint from a non-spammer, I'll change it
[...]
<DaveG> yes, and no sane person would dissagree with my statements
<Shalmaneser> Oh?
<Arianna> then I am insane :)
<DaveG> the most I did was call you an ass
<DaveG> which you are
<Shalmaneser> DaveG, you did more than that.
<Arianna> please, stop insulting people here.
[...]
<DaveG> Shalmaneser: the only people who have EVER complained about the spam blocker are the spammers
<DaveG> Shalmaneser: I don't want to add "warn" buttons over the whole game, and there's not a chance in hell they won't be abused to no end
[...]
<DaveG> no one has agreed with you!.
<Shalmaneser> I'm not looking for a fight here.
<Arianna> I did...
<DaveG> the except ary, and she's doing it to piss me off :P
<Shalmaneser> A few others did too.
<Kanalal> shalmaneser: do you realy believe that a system which allowa players to punish other players would not be abused?
<Arianna> Kanalal, isn't like that already?
<Niavard> I'm also doing it just to piss you off
<DaveG> xordan did, and has now recinded once he found out who you are
<DaveG> you're also ignoreing the whole "ugly" part of adding a "warn" button
<Arianna> oh, god.
<Shalmaneser> This is all very melo-dramatic.
<Arianna> like if there are not already tons of ugly things like the info window, neh?
<Xordan> He threatened to kill my family if I didn't agree with him xP

So hey could I "auto-decline and warn" or do you figure auto-declines should get a free pass? If you RP a request I might consider turning off auto-decline for that particular instance but just sending an invite/challenge/trade without a word is OOC and takes away from my role-play.

Auto-declines should be a free pass.

And now I'm really ticked off. I challenged someone to a duel for the first time since getting out of the death realm (and I'm an Enkidukai, so add the run all the way back to Hydlaa with barely any stamina, which is nearly 20 minutes), then I fought a rogue for about 10 minutes, and that's when I challenged him. Well, I got kicked from the server, and lost 30 duel points.

Fix this system, and I mean fix it now, I'm beginning to get really pissed off here. Dueling's my nature, and plus these penalties should only come into effect when spamming one person, not having a challenge declined by someone and then challenging anyone else causing Laanx to personally kill you. It's especially annoying when we're having duel practice in DR. Give us a timer, and make it so only spamming one person penalizes you, not every person you see.

Please be careful with your word choice, AGAIN.
