One of my characters is right at the division between the two parts of the road to the bronze door region.  What happens is that I connect to the server, log in as my character, and then it looks like I'm in game but I'm not getting any information from the server.  The bar for stamina isn't there.  I can't get info on my inventory or spellbook.  I get no system messages except for /ping.  I can't send chat messages or see who's online.  Basically, I get disconnected the instant I enter the game.

The character in question is Shalmaneser.  I've logged in as other characters and I haven't had the same problem.

And now I'm having the exact same problem again, only I'm just outside the mouth to the tunnel. :|  What could be causing this?

I'm sorry for posting again, but I figured that this would be better than starting a new thread.

I've isolated the problem to the Waterfall Fortress map.  Something about that map causes my client to disconnect.  Some people have suggested that a bad connection might be the villian.  Is there anything I can do or should try doing?

I had that once, in a different region. Back then, my zoneinfo.xml file was corrupted. Try to rename this file (should be in the data subdirectory) and run the updater. You should get a clean copy of the file then.

Note that this is just a guess... :'(

do a relight... restore the map by deleting and updating... else... good luck :D

A relight should be totally unnecessary in this case.
I would indeed recommend getting a new zoneinfo.xml and removing camera.xml before launching Planeshift.

I was having the same issue as zanzibar and your trouble shooting worked like a charm Uyaem. Thanks, it worked! :D

Deleting the camera file and updating the zone file worked.  But then I had the same problem again, so I did the same thing, and it worked again.

This problem has been persistent and isolated to the Fortress map.  Something that's possibly of note is that it takes exactly 30 seconds to load the map.

Using the particle-free map got rid of the problem with the client crashing, however I still enter the game disconnected.  Deleting the camera file does not help.  I see from one of my earlier posts that deleting the zoneinfo file made a difference, but I don't remember it solving the problem.  I will try that again when the updater is up and running.  Right now I'm looking at other possibilities.


Here are my system specs:

WinXP running Service Pack 1
Intel Pentium 4 2.40 GHz
512 MB of RAM
MNVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440 with AGP8X
Creative Audigy 2 Soundcard


I'm playing with the sound off and I'm playing with very low quality graphics settings in order to speed up loading times etc.  I have Planeshift on another computer and I do not experience this problem on that machine.

Tonight I've been able to enter the Fortress map without disconnecting.  I have no idea what would cause this.  I've made no changes at my end.  The problem did return at one point for a short time, but now I'm back in again.

Edit:  Just as I finish typing this, I get disconnected.  I'm starting to think that this whole affair has more to do with my internet connection than anything else, especially since no one else is experiencing the same problem.

Did you do anything about whatever you fried? Like I said in the other thread about your connection that burning smell is always bad. It means something needs to be replaced/repaired.

It turned out that my chair rolled over a wire and cut into it.  The spark was an electrical short in the wire.


It was a pretty big spark, too.  Lit up the room.
