No hardware acceleration - possible router/hardware problems
« on: October 16, 2006, 11:11:51 pm »
For as long as I can remember, every time I try starting up PS on the computer I'm at right now the server doesn't work. I have the "No Hardware Acceleration" message at the top, but the only thing I can possibly find wrong is that I have 502 RAM instead of 512.

Perhaps it's my graphics card, perhaps not...I was thinking my router but it seems a bit more complicated than that. Would anyone be kind enough to walk me through fixing this?

I would suggest going to #planeshift-build on freenode.net using an irc client. You should be able to get realtime help to troubleshoot the problem.
Recommended Window's Irc Clients Include: kvirc at http://www.kvirc.net and icechat at http://www.icechat.net
Recommended Linux Irc Clients Include: kvirc at http://www.kvirc.net and bitchx at http://www.bitchx.org

I don't see how your router would have anything to do with hardware acceleration o.O Try updating graphics drivers.

Chances are that it's an integrated chipset in that case, and not an actual video card. Can you type dxdiag into the run command, and find the "Approx. Total Memory" on the Display tab? If it's less than 64MB, that computer isn't much good for running PlaneShift.

Drivers, with instructions on how to check your current driver version.

Can you look through your BIOS settings and check whether 32MB or 64MB is allocated for graphics on your chipset? It's an iffy thing, and you'll be much better off with an actual graphics card rather than something integrated.
