IRSSI failed the longterm connectivity test (lost connection about once an hour or more)

Your experience was unique. irssi has stayed up for 2 to 3 weeks for me. And iirc, usually what brought it down was a full system failure or a planned client restart. The main irssi problem is, it's really only for UNIX(yes, yes, i have heard of cygwin) and shell junkies. And the interface is going to be completely foreign, so there's a serious learning curve involved.

If the above didn't scare you off.

Why do people always forget there is a guide? >.>
(Note: This guide is for windows only, and isn't by any stretch a complete guide, but it should get most windows users started)

I'm the moderator of the fan channel (along with Uyaem, and Talad [though he is usually too busy]), so if you have any questions about IRC, you can ask me or Uyaem. I'm usually online as josePhoenix or joseMobile.

Your experience was unique.

These tests were not done by me sitting online with an irc client for 3 weeks and proclaiming it good. That is a terrible way to test if something performs to the standard rfc specifications.  They were done by starting an irc server and sending various packets to the irc clients. It does not handle them all correctly. Further, other users continually claim irssi is the best and continually get dropped from the planeshift-build channel for ambiguous reasons. This is not one user's point of view, but thank you for your 2 cents. I'll mail them back. ;)

Wrong.
Fear is their most important weapon.

Can you post a link on that? I'd be interested to see some proof of those claims.

A link to what? These were internal tests I ran because I got tired of loading yet another "best" irc client just to get booted repeatedly from an irc server. Last I checked, this was a thread for stating your favorite chat clients. I just did so and stated my reasons. I didnt run a exhaustive comparative study on every single irc client available and have no intention of doing so. For that reason, I will not publish the material. People like to flame information. Feel free to run your own tests using the rfc specifications. I just don't have the time to deal with an in-depth study on freeware. This is the last I'll speak on this thread, so feel free to flame away. :D

On a separate note: Chatzilla and Opera's chat clients are both great little embedded utilities if you don't want to install an irc client specifically for chatting. They do drop the link once in a while, but if you prefer not to install a separate utility, they work great.  :)

If irssi really doesn't comply with rfc standards that's something I would like to know, but if you can't/won't supply any more details that's fine too.

I've already got three chat clients open so i didn't want to go messign around with another, especially if those ones might conflict with the ones i'm using. I just use telnet through terminal (mac os x) a few quirks but it works well. Only thing is i can't /me :(
