Next Update/version
« on: October 23, 2006, 03:00:08 am »
I'm curious because it has been awhile since the last version/major update has come out and I heard somewhere that they are done about every 2 months, when is the next one?  I am very ambitious to know.  And if you could, what are some things planned to be released/changed in it?

The last update was on the 14th of September - just a little over a month ago, so it's definitely early for the next release. We have at least one more to go. As for what's in it, why - more stuff, of course!

/me taps his watch and looks at it "Really? Just a month and a bit ago?  Meh guess there is still 3-4 more weeks."

anything more specific than more stuff??? like new spells, pets can attack ***cough cough***

Unfortunately none of us can release any such information without Talad's permission - and he likes to keep things a surprise for each update. So asking won't get you the answers you'd like - just have patience

Something you might like however, if you're not familiar with it already, is the PlaneShift CVS. While it doesn't include any mention f content-specific changes (land, models, spells, etc.) it will tell you some of what has changed in the code. Some of it may look undecipherable if you're unfamiliar with the workings of the code itself, but you can usually glean some cool piece of information or two.

Changes until now:
-Performance improvements
-Lots of work on future systems (tribesystem). Look at my screens in the Screenshots! thread for a glance at that.
-Lots of bugfixes.

Biggest user-noticeable change:
-Configurable chat window.
-When a weapon got damaged and then fully repaired again, the max quality will drop 2%

So mostly under the hood changes at the moment, but we're not there yet ;)

well that 2% drop thing sucks... alot if it is to work like that u should be able to do something more hard to fully repair ur weapon. something to do with blacksmithing i suppose. reinforce it or sumthin

Because obviously a blacksmith would be able to make a damaged sword 100% brand new..... /endsarcasm

If a weapon gets too damaged, you could remake the weapon. Say, heat it again, hammer it again, all that stuff.

* Parallo almost chokes on his cider spewing it out and nearly damages his keyboard.
;D
I suggest the statue of Laanx gets turned into a statue of Parallo <3. An NPC could never replace the huge hole he left in my heart when he died  :'(

Well here's what I'm thinking. Say your rare "Short Sword of Talad's Arm (for example)" gets a little scuffed. You try to repair it, but the max quality goes down. Before that max quality gets too low after constant repairs, you would sort of "reshape it" or heat and hammer it again, making it almost brand new, but less powerful since your remake of the sword wouldn't be as good as whoever made its quality. Max quality would return to the sword, but max slash power would drop a little.

I think 2% is getting off lucky as the repair skill say up to 75% not 98% but perhaps that will come later. Of course if that 2% gets applied enough times you will eventually get below the 75% from the description.

Would that be 2% of the original maximum (100, 98, 96, 94, 92, 90, 88...), or 2% of the current maximum (100, 98, 96.04, 94.1192, 92.236816, 90.39207968, 88.5842380864...)?
