G15 support
« on: October 26, 2006, 09:57:35 pm »
I would like ot requst G15 support for Planeshift because the G15 keyboard has an LCD display capable of displaying ingame information on the keyboard instead of taking up screenspace. I wish for stamina stats, time and possibly internet time to be placed onto the lcd, and by the push of the button you can switch to chat being displayed. to switch chat channels there will be a simple thin bar on the screen you can click each channel to view it in realtime. and maybe a third button will let you see both, and the 4th button will rotate between all channels and stats

A stand can be made against invasion by an army; no stand can be made against invasion by an idea.

Wait.. what?

I don't think any one of us on the team has such a keyboard - and it sure isn't what the majority of people use, therefore this is something we shouldn't spend time on until much later, if even ever. What other games have G15 support that you have played?
Judge: Are you trying to show contempt for this court, Mr Smith?
Smith: No, My Lord. I am attempting to conceal it.

Planeshift on its own supports no hardware at all. We use the CrystalSpace game engine for that and if they start supporting the G15 keyboard, we can support it as well.

Tons of game Karyuu.

Mostly FPS from my experience though.

yes, it's very spiffy.  I enjoy mine much.  Buuuuttttt, as it has been said, if you want PS to support it, get Crystal Space to support it.

Oh, and it makes playing WoW a breeze. (I don't play WoW, but friend does and he borrowed my keyboard for a week while I was away and he didn't want to give it back afterwards, since he enjoyed it so much.)  But I like to keep the lcd display showing my memory usage and how much load each of my cpu cores are currently processing.  Becuase I'm weird like that.

Hmm, after reading that "Whoops" post on Newbie Help forum, I'm not sure if G15 support should be encouraged. If anything, its special "features" should probably be disabled. :)

The problem is that keyboard macros that can be created using the software bundled with the G15 keyboard do not need any support from PS. It would be the LCD screen on the keyboard that needs the PS support to show stats/tria/whatever.

Not support, interference.  :P
