Thx to whomever
« on: October 29, 2006, 06:14:40 pm »
I am not sure where to post this at but since I am a noob I thought this would be the place.

First off a little background: I have been playing Pen and Paper D & D for about 23 yrs. In that time I enjoyed being able to sit around the table face to face and roleplay with no one making fun of you unless it was really idiotic. Also when new people joined the group we welcomed them with open arms and helped them be part of the group as quickly as possible. :sorcerer:

I heard about MMORPG in the late 90's, and what I heard was kind of disturbing. New players joining and people making fun of them or not giving advice or just plain ignoring them because they were new. I realized I did not want to be any part of that!!! :@#\

Then a friend said we should try one since we are the only ones left in our group and I thought okay but if its like what I heard I'm gone!!!

On searching for a realm we found PlaneShift, and I have only been here for two days but what I found was BREATHTAKING. The people were nice, if you asked a question you usually got an answer or they would show you the way. So I guess I was wrong all these years or maybe I just found home.

So thx to everyone I have talked to you have made this place a pleasure to be in and a big THANKYOU to the person/s that have the imagination that I get to explore.

Welcome to Planeshift.

Not only will you be able to explore the imagination of others but you joined at a time when yours is maybe more important than it will be in the future, when the world will stabilise.

In a few days, when you will be addicted, remember this post you made and be among the helping ones to welcome new visitors.

Have fun.

Welcome sir.. the usual problem is that the majority of people joining is just looking for a free game to play... which makes some generalize and hurt those who really came here to roleplay.

Anyways... I hope to meet you in game... and to perhaps play with you ;)

... and for the usual cynical Phin post... Don't expect life in PS to be the bed of roses that your first experience appears to have been.

Perhaps more poetically, one could say the bed of roses may contain a few thorns ;]

But I'm glad you enjoy PlaneShift (thus far, at least) :) Just don't mind the bugs and it'll be golden.. or at least quite shiny and yellowish :D

Don't mind the game mechanics, either.

*Mutter mutter. Grumble grumble.*

(I just thought I'd give "levelling" another chance as pure mage. Ha ha ha. Very funny. *Mutter mutter*)

That or make game mechanics parts of your virtual life and invent creative theories to justify them from your char's perspective.

Mmm... for instance... Phinehas, who has been studying magic his whole life, has a closet hobby of scouring the dungeons in search of rats to kill slowly with weak spells. Yeah...

Not everone in PS is nice.  Me, for instance.

I think that you're right though.  PS does seem unique, and the community is a major reason.  I will say though... I've been around some pretty heated D&D discussions before.

"No, you can't buy a cow and use it as a steed!"
>"But it's so much cheeper than a horse..."
"It's a cow!"
>"I could train it!"
"It doesn't work!"
>"Screw you!"
"And YOU, no chaotic evil characters this game!"
>>"@$^$#"
>>>"Can I be a pyromancer?"
>"A what?"
"An elementalist who specializes in fire."
>>>"Yeah."
"Sure.  We'll just give you +2 to all dice rolls for fire spells."
>>"Uh..."
"It will be fine, he's new."

Later on, our camp was attacked by some footmen and some archers.

>>>"I want to cast lightning cone behind their line so that I fry their guys but not any of us."
>>"Wait, it's a freaking cone.  We'll be killed."
"No, it can work if it's placed right."
>>>"Ok, and I'm going to cast fireball on those archers...."
"Ok, roll."
zanzibar has rolled a 6, a 6, a 5, and a 6.
"..."

>>>"What?"
