Some Questions
« on: October 30, 2006, 10:52:28 pm »
Hello,
i do not know whether this is the right section for the things i would like to write about.
Anyway, first of all i should mention that i am playing this game now for about 1 year,
but with an absence of 8 months from 02/06 to 10/06.
So a lot of things changed and new skills and features came along while i was gone.
And Players of course too ;-)

First of all i noticed that there was a change of the road from Oja to Hydlaa,
which i used to travel often since i am an Endukai in the game.
This was a little suprising to me, because the world around me tends not to change its roads so extremly.
But okay, it is just a game.
(Here again comes the ask for the implemention of maps or at least some kind of)
This change made me want for something i allready missed in early stages of playing.
A compass, or at least the sun as an wayguide for East, West and South depending on the time.

Then i saw that there was crafting implemented and the mining system redefined.
I remember that you could see the ore in the earth to dig for it, correct me if i am wrong.
And there are new spots to mine, which i think are hard to find without the help of an other player.

What i really miss (or did not find) is a complete manual or instruction for those new features.
It is okay that i can ask my way around in the game,
but that hinders the roleplaying of the game.

What also could help is some kind of signs in the game, like black boards,
to anounce new features if the game and their way to use them.

Hmmm,
better move that post to the wish list.
When i started to write i wanted to ask about the usage of the new crafting system,
but it got a wish-list.

Greetings and Good Night
Markus

I would also like a compass - an item that could be purchased from various merchants for a relatively small fee, and would become a part of the GUI when activated.. Or perhaps a quest to learn to craft one yourself?
Having a sun to move east -> west would be inaccurate to the settings. The azure "sun" is only called such as it is the primary light source, and the original settlers to yliakum knew sun as being what performed this task. It's actually a big glowing crystal, the game world being a large stalactite hanging from the ceiling of a cavern within an unknown planet.. The current inhabitants have never seen the surface of this planet, so know nothing of stars or suns.. And the crystal doesn't move, of course.. It just dims a little at night... Perhaps the glow is charged by the light of the sun above?

Er, anyway..  Yliakum isn't on the surface of the planet, and it doesn't revolve around the crystal, so there's no east -> west movement there to tell directions by.

true, And this is the right section ;)

First of all i noticed that there was a change of the road from Oja to Hydlaa,

This change made me want for something i allready missed in early stages of playing.
A compass, or at least the sun as an wayguide for East, West and South depending on the time.
the wayguide we have now for north, is the big windowless tower in hydlaa -> north when you're looking at it from the plaza.
And since the sun is the azure sun which stands still all the time... you can't really use that :)

Then i saw that there was crafting implemented and the mining system redefined.
I remember that you could see the ore in the earth to dig for it, correct me if i am wrong.
And there are new spots to mine, which i think are hard to find without the help of an other player.
can't remember whether it was or not. Didn't do much mining in 0.12
but yes, it is find, there are no other indicators where to find ores other than others digging.

What i really miss (or did not find) is a complete manual or instruction for those new features.
It is okay that i can ask my way around in the game,
but that hinders the roleplaying of the game.
A long discussion could be taken upon to discuss whether it is or not. Some points yes. Other points no. If your character never thought about smithing, then he wouldn't be interested at all maybe.

What also could help is some kind of signs in the game, like black boards,
to anounce new features if the game and their way to use them.
How would you explain characterwise a big blackboard talking about a server? You can't. But if you want to see the full list of changes since 0.12 go to planeshift.it and look at all new releases since then to see what has been done :).
Maybe there are more... if there is I would suggest rules and notification section

Hmmm,
better move that post to the wish list.

Hello,
so I see I am not the first on who wanted to have an orientation help like a compass
or even a map.
(Or is that one of the words which are banned to use by the meaning of a painfull death?)  ;)

For the crafting questions I found a rough round-up of the features in the Guides and Tutorials Section of the Newbie-Help thread.
Now usualy there is allways the option to find another Player in-Game to help you and teach you the basics.
But sometimes I do not want to bother strangers with my problems,
as in real-life I do not run across the street asking people to guide me to the next smithey  ;)

About the Black-Board I mentioned.
I did not want to implent a version history into the game,
just something like:
"Got some Iron? Go and try out the new Highoven to make real good steel !"
or
"In need for some sowrd training? Go and see the guy beneath the sewers"
or
" New! New! New! go and get your own personal helmet at XXXX !"
(the xxxx is because I do not know where to get them  :( )
and so on, just some ideas......

Another question:
In the Stats window you can turn on or off a filter.
What does this filter?
I think it shows only active skills if and stats if on or shows all of them if off.

But I am not shure.  ???

Bye
Markus

I never understood the purpose of the filter function there. It simply hides the skills that are at the zero level and nothing else. And sometimes crashes the client (ask Janner about it ;) ).
