The original art for PlaneShift races (with images)

If you haven't seen it already, you'll probably like these. This is the original PlaneShift art I've found on the french PlaneShift community site:

http://img159.imageshack.us/img159/1201/races1vd0.jpg
http://img183.imageshack.us/img183/4152/races2tx8.jpg
http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/2572/races3pb5.jpg
http://img289.imageshack.us/img289/4803/racesqh4.jpg

As you can see, the races aren't quite proportionate to each other, probably because the site designer just sized them randomly to whatever looked good to him. However, they are much more detailed than the ones on the official PlaneShift site. Judging by some of the old PlaneShift 2D (yes, 2D!) screenshots, as well as the Races page on the main site, this is the original (and more complete) artwork for the races since the time PlaneShift was going to be a commercial project. Some of the artwork already appears on the main PS site. However, not all genders are included and the resolution is not as high, so less detail is seen. I wish such artwork (high-res, less compression) for all the genders was included on the main PS site as well.

Also, some of the races are missing their gender counterparts (those that are supposed to have two genders), so the original artwork must have never been done at the time yet. For example, Ylians and Klyros lack their female counterparts, so it's probably still open to interpretation when it'll come to making a 3D model for those. Dwarves/dwarfs seem to have only one female version, which is interestingly included as a Stonebreaker female under individual race pages but paired up with a Hammerwielder in a group shot.

Now onto the drawings themselves. A lot more detail can be seen, for one thing. I'm really digging the Diaboli female. ;) Lemur and Xacha femmes are looking cute too, with the Xacha female having some serious cleavage going on. :D It's interesting to see the Ynnwn female with a tail, which is true to their description that Ynnwns are sometimes born with a tail. The original Enkidukai are a little more true to their description as well, with human like feet and all, meaning that they are humanoids with feline features rather than the opposite. The Dermorian male looks a little more manly in the drawing as opposed to a more feminine version in the game. The female dwarf is just adorable. I think the in-game model is great but the face looks scary. In the drawing she has a much warmer look to her. The Diaboli male with the blonde(ish) hair is amusing.

Hope you guys enjoy these to tie you over until all the 3D models make it into the game.  :)

When you say that is it because these are how the final models will look?

I'm also wondering, have the female Kran even been thought out yet, lol? I have never seen a picture of them. I mean IS there a female Kran? Do you dev's or somebody have any pictures you want to scan of them, if you have them that is.

Kran don't have genders.

Pity the starter of the thread didn't realise there are race settings pages.

That's what I thought, I just couldn't completely recall it, thank you.

And the person who started this started it awhile ago, and back then there was the old site where it was a little bit harder to find everything.

Take a look at the date of this thread and compare it with the old site:

http://web.archive.org/web/20060206140750/www.planeshift.it/setting_races.html

The races back then did not have all the art posted at the settings page, some genders were missing, so it wasn't even a matter of being hard to find. The thread was valid at the time it was posted. In fact, it seems the thread starter went out of his/her way to find extra art on the French site, which does not exist now.

Strange that this was necro'ed. Although, I always enjoy reading about PS art and anything related to it. :)

Exactly. Game females give us real life girls a bad image. Nobody really looks like that in real life. Oh well.

"Nobody" is a bit of an overreaction. Be careful about generalizing how all gamer females feel, too - I don't mind at all. I'm surprised people would mention the female Enkidukai and not the female Xacha, for example. Either way, no one's forcing you to get plastic surgery or breast implants. It's an old drawing of one of the races. Big deal :) It doesn't affect your image in the slightest, especially when the chest size of the fenki in the game looks nothing like that.

Smith: No, My Lord. I am attempting to conceal it.

Athletic, well-toned females who can do everything as well as their male counterparts are giving real life girls a bad image?

I'd say it was more the other way around  :whistling:

I think this is not what she meant about, it is more something like this:

http://www.thenoobcomic.com/daily/strip008.html

Something known as: Objectification of women. Tends to attract when used in excess a bunch of young male teenagers in puberty, the age of 80% of the so much loved l33ts. Of course this does not mean female characters should wear burgas either, but as there is no human female character at all, I think it is really weird that someone might feel attracted by a red skinned horned female model that in no way can ever come really close to what a pretty and "hot" woman looks in reality.

Objectification of women...

Give me a break.

If they look hot, it's objectification.  If they look ugly, it's insulting.

And if it's somewhere in the middle...it's usually still objectification.
The whole deal is women being so insecure with their bodies because they allow pressure to be put on themselves.

As do men, these days, actually.
Either way, it's completely idiotic and the discussion is a waste of forum space.

You don't see Drey complaining about the Kran :P

It is always funny to watch threads drift away into complaining about off-topic.

Like those "traffic jams out of nothing". Overreaction about a little touch of a brake.

Funny indeed...

I think this overreaction is due to a deeper problem of these days, because in heroic-fantasy (and everywhere else) ladies are always thin-with-big-breasts-string-and-boots-that-reach-the-thighs. But of course this is off topic, and Planeshift won't solve it  :)...

That's right I NEVER saw any human woman in Planeshift, I think 80% of girl-players choose Fenkis, and the rest choose Diabolin then dwarves (which are not specially hot...). I think I didn't see any elf woman either, but maybe the model is not available...  :detective:

But take it easy : I wouldn't be happy if I was bearded and 1m40 tall in the real life !  ;D

Once, I been chased by a mad gay Kran, but this is another story....

Krans are supposed to be asexual, so there is no sense on having "straight" or "gay" Krans, and I believe this case would definitively deserve a /report or alike measure as well. Though I still find krans married to other krans in game...
