What is or isn't "idle chit chat" is a highly subjective matter.  In this particular situation, I feel that the posts were on topic because they had direct relevance to other posts made in this thread.  Perhaps the interests of all parties would be best represented if a "Discussion on the Comments on 'Faces Behind the Players'" thread was started, and the appropriate posts were moved from this thread to the new one.
