Bizzare freezing and lag issue between worlds
« on: November 06, 2006, 07:50:10 pm »
Hi folks, after doing a fair bit of exploring I left the main human town and headed towards the woods. This is the direction Away from the Cat village, and is the direction which has a little magic shop somewhere. Now in this woodland area, this happens...

Annoying Im sure you will agree. Now, after heading past here, through the huge open plains and past the green door, and through the other plain, things get weird. Ive seen the levels load slightly jerky at times, and there is usually some severe lag when I first step into a new location, but I was staring at this screen for 15 minutes...

One it had actually loaded, It would take ages to take a step, before the camera went 'clip-happy' and all sorts of freaky stuff was going on. After half an hour I shut it off. Am I the only person to encounter this issue?

Technical details are as follows. Im a iMac G5 user with Wireless broadband running OSX 3.8

Thanks for your time.

The problems you are having in the Bronze Doors Region are due largely to the Waterfall that thunders down the ravine underneath the Fortress.

1. Use Software Update to get Mac OS X Version 10.3.9

2. Go to the link to this post I made in another thread: http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=26201.msg294508#msg294508

3. Download the .zip file that Illori made available from the link in that post and follow the instructions in that post of mine.

4. When you go back into the Bronze Doors Region, make sure you are in Third Person Follow camera Mode, and use the Page Down key to look down more onto your character so that the Waterfall is mostly out of the field of view... this will reduce the lag effect quite considerably.

Also, if you haven't done so click the Options Icon, then click Keys and set up Home Key for Zoom In and set up End Key for Zoom Out -these I find useful for use with theThird Person Follow camera Mode.

I am currently PlaneShifting using an Apple eMac 1.25GHz PowerPC G4 with 1 GB DDR SDRAM and running Mac OS X Version 10.3.9 and, although there is some lag experienced in the Bronze Doors Region, it seems to be far less than that which you've described as affecting your PS experience!

- my iMac is getting it's HD replaced under warranty and it's specs are in my sig.

- Hope this is helpful for you
- running PlaneShift Mac OS X Tiger (10.4.11) Client, on an Apple iMac G5 2GHz PowerPC processor, 2GB DDR SDRAM, an ATI Radeon 9600 graphics card with 128MB VRAM, a 20-inch active-matrix LCD widescreen display, and a 250GB Serial ATA hard drive... so what's your excuse, huh?

Thanks very much for the advice, I'll get the downloads A.S.A.P.
Before I read this, I returned and decided to make a go of the area, and this is how it looked.

So clearly an update is needed. I had no idea what I was walking up due to the solid black look to the landscape, hence me walking off the edge off a cliff, and dying.

Something tells me it will be a while before I can return to the Bronze doors, but I will post again should any further technical issues arise. Thanks for the help.

Try turning up the texture downsampling to 1/16 in the PS settings window.
