The DOWN SIDE of this is, it then becomes all-too-easy for some mischief-maker to go tinkering around with those images and post something obscene or racist, which would then get loaded onto the machine of anyone who saw/anyone who loaded the area they're in. Most of us are mature enough not to abuse such a feature, but there's always the exception... that said, I would definitely support the "template" idea mentioned in the OP, as it would be much more difficult to create offensive content.

It seems like it should be very easy to log who has uploaded what image, thus allowing any image that is thusly offensive to be tracked to the source, and that person dealt with.

The only problem that really comes into play with custom artwork, is that this is a global game... and not everything that is offensive in one locale is offensive in another. I may have something that, to me, is completely innocent, and someone else takes offence. I am going to assume that, at least in the near future, if something like this is implemented, it would be on an approved basis only, and would be applied at the next artwork update.

good discussion, most above me, since I am not sure about all of this,

But seems to me that yes, guild symbols would probably have to be global, to maintain approval and content, and anything fancy or potentially controversial would be rejected.  (Talad, or whomever would define that, I guess?)

I think guilds would really like this, and would be a nice "entry level" way for artwork to get submitted, making the game richer in look too.

sounds nifty to me.  then maybe once they get good at doing some symbols, maybe a few might submit other artwork, and join the Dev team!  "hey, check out this design for bucklers, iron, bronze and steel versions!"

anyway, nice to sit in on this.
