Bling Bling Harn?
« on: November 17, 2006, 03:58:14 am »
Where does all the money for training go? Do NPCs have a secret offshore accounts? You would think Harny would be able to buy a better forge by now so he would not have to share his smithy. Which, by the way, is rather silly considering how protective of their tools and trade a real blacksmith is.

That brings up another point. Where does all this money come from? In a real economy, there is a limited amount of money that just circulates. New money is only made if there is a base for it. What is the money based on?

Come on Moon you should know.

The forge isn't actualy Harnquists, it's a big scam.

You see every time the server goes down, all the mosters come and steal poor Harnys money, along with many others.

It's a vicious circle and poor harny gets the butt end

Where does Harnquists money go? -- Of course to all the gold miners who appear minutely. ;)

But then I wonder what Harnquist makes out of them. Did he ever sell golden weapons?

And the amount of avaialble gold can only be a result of Levrus' trials and errors. ;)

Making money could be a job for gem cutters with highest skills. We have enough rubies for octas and emeralds for trias - so anyone may need to discover sapphires for hexas.

UtM, you know very well the game has way not enough features for the economy to work the way it should ;) But this all should have high priority while making the game, in order to develop it in the right direction.

The economy should work in such a way that all players get maximum enjoyment from the game.  I don't think that a realistic economy would achieve that goal.

Indeed...
What is the money based on?
The miner's gold... more gold more sustent for making money... (think in Fort Knox, EEUU)

Actually more gold, more circulating money... hey! We should have devaluation!!  ;D

Seen how much people ask for good weapons these days? NPCs might not respond yet but the playereconomy definately does respond to the fact more tria are circulating.

Anyhow we only see a very small part of the planes yet. Who knows. Perhaps that is the only gold mine on all the seven planes. Would take a lot to then make the price go down.

The question is not what won't acieve this goal, but if it ever was, is or will be possible.
Do you really believe it is possible to make everyone happy? Or, if somehow the avarage of happiness of everybody will be the highest possible, what if for the single avarage person it will be actualy lower than it normally would be? ;P
This is unimaginable, human psyche is far more complicated to fool with it and gues the enviroment, so that the collective will get maximum of happiness ever. There is no such thing as collective, everyone are different.
Kind of reminds me of some ideals of communism. I wonder what is it like in China currently^^ The only thing what i can say about it is that if you go there, you may stay there forever, coz the collective matters afterall ;P

Yay, do you really believe for the maximum enjoyment thing?

* Garile blinks a few times reading Nikodemus and rereads a few times to make sure she really understood it.

Is there a point in there? You disagree with Zansibar granted but why bring in things like communism?

Are you forced to play Planeshift? Are you shot if you don't play it a certain way?

Zanzibar made the very good point that realism is a goal but that realism isn't the only goal and perhaps not even the most important one. Enjoyment by the players [yes the playerS, not just me or just you] is also important, probably a lot more important.

Realism in a game like this shouldn't be strived for for realisms sake. It should be becuase it is enjoyable by a lot of players to have the real feel of walking in a different world. If you add something becuase it adds realism but noone enjoys it you are definately on the wrong track.

comunism, because it is the same utopy as making everybody happy. I advice to read the Utopia book  ;) It may be actually funny how much it describes some areas of PS ;D

The problem with realism is that it is directly connected with Roleplaying. Forgetting about realism we can as well forget about roleplaying in the sense we are supposed to in PS. So, if we forget about realism, we may as well RP exactly this what we have in PS. Example:
guy1 Hey, what are you doing?
guy2 I'm testing a bug to fix it
guy1 Oh great, I hope next time I go to tavern the guards outside will agree to join our party!
guy2 I hope it won't take me too long, so i can level a bit on mobs.

... It is messing OOC with IC so the terms don't exist anymore. You start to RP what you wish.

Thanx Garile for rereading my post. ^^

This is how I live my life, so I guess that I do.  Perhaps Xillix should lend me her cap?

Hypotetical situation: So if your friend loose a job, house, health, and start begging you for help what will cause the same to you with time, will you tell him to go to hell making him greatly unhappy, because otherwise you would be unhappy? Or you throw your life to trash to make your friend happy, together with you so that you could share the same tragedy as your friend? Is it really happiness for you?

I choose option C.
