Nothing Happens
« on: November 28, 2006, 12:57:28 am »
Windows XP, athlon XP 3000+, 2 gig ram, radeon x800 pro.

So I downloaded the game, installed it, and had it run the updater. nothing happened. I go to the start menu and start the updater, nothing happens. I start the setup, nothing happens. After doing this several times I notice a window pops up for a split second and disappears each time.  Drivers are up to date. Any ideas?

If you run the client (Planeshift Tech Demo or psclient.exe depending from where you are accessing the game) what happens instead?
Do you have a file called errorlog.txt in Planeshift directory?

Running psclient.exe results in the same thing. I did a search and found no errorlog.txt file in the directory. :(

That popping window is probably DOS starting up, giving an error and closing itself again as it usually does.
So instead, try to start it from CMD:
-Start
-Execute
-type "cmd" and press Enter.
Now type in the adress of Planeshift and press Enter. For example I need to do this:
F: (to go from the C drive to the F drive)
cd F:\development\planeshift\ (to go to the Planeshift folder)
psclient.exe (to startup planeshift)

You can also add parameters such as -debug, so you will type this in CMD:
psclient.exe -debug

When psclient crashes now, it will not close but stay open and display the error in DOS.
By clicking on that "C:\" logo in the upper-left corner of the DOS window you will be able to copy-paste the log into a post.

Try it! :)

Okay, now that is strange.
The only things I can recommend is to make sure every driver is up-to-date and to do a reinstall/redownload of Planeshift  :(
If that doesn't work either you could always try to build Planeshift yourself from CVS, if you know your way with computers.

Fixed it. Reinstalled my video drivers.

I hadn't played any PC games since I got my Wii over a week ago. Earlier today I tried to play some and they were all doing this, so I knew it was something with my system. For some reason my first reinstall attempt was botched, I rebooted into a garbled screen. Had to safe mode and remove device. Then reboot and reinstall again. Wonder what the heck would cause that? Oh well, its all working now :)
