Is using buggy spells banned?
« on: November 29, 2006, 12:08:29 pm »
A question regarding the use of spells etc which may affect other players clients  -are they allowed to be used or not?

The reason is that I see some players demanding that others stop using them (in particular at the moment summon).

I know myself that if someone asks me politely to stop  while they are around because it makes them crash I am quite happy to do so, but when I get some rude jerk or wanna be GM with ego problems start laying down the law  and ordering me to stop then  my reaction is to use them all the more.

I am not asking about moral judgements... simply what are the rules on this?

weakness and strength affects the strength if the other person crashes when the spells are active... or they did do, I don't know if that bug has been fixed

I would have thought that.. using buggy spells would only really break rules if there was an obvious intent to use it for the purpose of spoiling the game for others (by intentionally trying to make them crash).

Even so, there's probably no written rule specifically referring to this and everyone can make mistakes... but if I was asked to stop using a certain magic because it was making people crash... I'd either stop.. or move away from them too.

As for them being impolite... well... they're probably just frustrated with crashing frequently.  :-\

hmm personally seeing how long it takes to restart the client and how annoying it if if it then crahes five second after the loading is donel I think it is extremely rude to use spells that you know makes other people crash. I mean ofcourse the other should be polite in my opinion when telling you it is causing crashes, but if he isn't and you still keep using it making him crash deliberately you are not just not being polite anymore in my opinion.

Deliberate use of bugs is not allowed. Not just if it gains you a bonus, but also if it interferes with other peoples ability to play the game.

Hmmm, this isnt exactly using a bug, its using something that happens to have a bug related to it on some peoples systems.

If you know that something is causing crashes on some people's system, why use it? Be a nice player and let them enjoy the game, without needing to restart the client for reasons other than server instability. If anyone is being a pain in the behind by crashing people's clients over and over, yes they'll get a severe warning. That's abusing something and causing tension OOC.

Smith: No, My Lord. I am attempting to conceal it.

Also.. Elvi mentioned to me that if you turn on Vertex Buffering it can help with this... (maybe it was posted here already?)

Anyway.. it seems to have worked pretty well for me... maybe it'll help others?!

Let's be honest.  People who are "wanna be GM's" are probably just pissed from crashing often due to this and do not want to put up with it.  I suspect you might become a "wanna be GM" too if this were your case.
