I just grabbed the first torrent client I could find once I came across torrents. (It was a gradual progression: Wanted to play XCOM again, one of my favourite childhood games -> abandonware -> Warez -> TorrentSpy -> Planescape) That just happened to be uTorrent. I heard BitLord or Azureus (sp?) was better though...

Wouldn't it be "Mu" torrent and not "U" torrent?

Indeed, the strange u in uTorrent is pronounced as "mu".
We're not evil. We're simply amazing.

Not by the community though, and that's all that really matters.

In fact it may be mu.

As spoken, it's always Utorrent.

Few will recognize what you are saying if you say, mutorrent.

rflol (in my head)

U/µ is a greek letter of the alphabet called Mu.  It's used by us to mean "micro" in some situations, but it did not mean micro to the Greeks.

All three are actually acceptable, Mu, "you", and micro. :P

Personally I always call it MuTorrent but that's just me. This is pure speculation but i would venture a guess that the "u" evolved largely from not having a Mu key on computer keyboards so, when people typed it they just substituted a u :)

I'm just going to continue using Utorrent, but not going to update until I am sure that no 'phone home' crap is installed.
