Speaking of rss feeds
« on: December 11, 2006, 07:43:51 pm »
How about putting an rss icon on the main page that links to a feed example page for easy integration? Would you prefer to have people try it out before you go to the trouble?

depending on your browser you should have an orange rss icon in the browser window i think that is enough for people that want to use it to find it.

Sorry I don't know of any.

Btw those sublinks I posted do not seem to work in Tbird. Maybe it is because I have the basic feed of all folders set up, it seems to update ok. I made those links using the example in the feed announcement thread so I am not sure what else it might be. I'll try deleting the basic one and see if that helps.

And I 'm telling you I don't see the link in the browser window but perhaps it is adblocked for some reason I'll take a look with out that in a minute. I don't see it in Konqueror either so I'm not sure what you are talking about. I suppose I could boot to windows and look for it there, or boot mandriva which has opera installed. I'll report back later.

Nothing in Windows, haven't install the latest IE yet.

* Caarrie looks in the botton right hand corner of her konqueror browser and sees the orange rss icon to click on

I have not looked in other browsers to see where it is located.

Which flavor of Linux do you use.
perhaps it has addons I don't have installed although I get my kde stuff from kde.org.

the way the rss feed is generated isn't recognised by all RSS feeders.

Indeed the feed is kind of odd, it kind of seems like it only updates the most recent posts when it checks so that you do not get all the posts unless you are continuously updating. I am not sure it is terribly useful the way it works but since it is part of the forum software it is not a big deal. I don't think I will use it unless I hear some new ideas on how.

Hi,

I dont use the default forum theme that Karyuu made so i logged off and checked and no that theme does not include the RSS feed icon to be added to your browser I dont know why. I have noticed that when using the board specific feeds they dont seen to update as they should. I dont know why but i am testing the full feed so i can report on if that works for me.

for those that are having trouble with the normal feed try the rss2 feed and see if that helps any
http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?type=rss2;action=.xml

[i have used the feeds on other smf forums with no problem so i dont know what the problem is with them coming from this forum]

yeah that worked in firefox, have to manually make the live bookmark tough :)

THE REASON why the xml feed is missing on karyuus theme is its missing this line in the HTML:

<link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="PlaneShift - RSS" href="http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?type=rss;action=.xml" />
