british million = 1,000,000
american million = 1,000,000
british billion 1,000,000,000,000 (as in two millions: bi = two, so two sets of "000,000")
american billion 1,000,000,000
british trillion 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 (as in three millions: tri = three, so three sets of "000,000")
american trillion 1,000,000,000,000

altough the british way is pretty much not used anymore and the scientific community use the american way.
