I'm less attracted to people after seeing noticeably airbrushed pictures of them.  I've found that girls have consistently different taste in other girls than guys do though, so I shouldn't necessarily expect us to have similar tastes.

That's not exactly true. Without going into the lengthy details, all women have an inner-male - or 'animus' - which allows them to identify beauty in fellow women in the same way men do (i.e. based on subconscious evidence of their fertility). Which means women's taste in women doesn't differ from males taste in women - the only difference is a personal taste in women, which can be influenced by the environment women grow up in, but in this day-and-age that environment isn't much different from that of a male's anyway.

*deep breath*

Besides, there's only so much airbrushing can do, and you'd have to be pretty beautiful to be a glamour model (although, admittedly, that does seem to rely more on chest size :P)

First off, sexism is still very strong in today's culture.  No one will deny the significance of gender roles on society.  So your comment about environment is just plain silly.  Secondly, all women have an "inner male"?  That's strikes me as just plain dumb.  Why not call it "an appreciation for feminine beauty"?  Why does it have to be an "inner-male"?  Will you be as quick to say that all men have an "inner-female" that allows us to identify other attractive men?  I doubt it.

In my experience, women tend to like more curvy female bodies than men.

Funny how it's considered completely normal for a woman to find another woman attractive, but as soon as a man thinks that of another man, it's a gigantic flashing sign of homosexuality.

I personally think that a lot of women know what's "attractive" in other women according to what their culture considers attractive, and aren't personally attracted, while a lot of men might know the same way, or even naturally be able to tell, and pretend that they don't/can't because it's not generally accepted for them to in any way imply attraction to other men, if that makes sense.

As for this "inner-male" thing, in my opinion, that's the sort of crap they might have come up with a few centuries ago to match the idea that women are "broken" men.

Thats because It's men doing the judging, and from a man's perspective, finding another man attractive IS a gigantic flashing sign of homosexuality.

Although I honestly think women are better at judging other women then men are at judging other men.  I for one can't pick a man that women would find attractive, except to say I can tell when a guy isn't ugly and has an attractive personality (confident, etc).  But for looks, I'm hopeless at it.
Women on the other hand always seem to have an opinion on other women's looks, and seem fairly competent at picking out a 'beautiful' woman.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if its biological that women know how to pick an attractive woman better than men can rate other men... it seems to fit with what I tend to see.

In addition, I think women have alot more complicated tastes then men.  Its pretty easy to pick an attractive woman from a man's perspective- slim, nice face, big breasts- but women are alot more picky with "personality" and crap like that.  We men don't subscribe to that sort of nonsense, and so we can't pick women's tastes  ;)

I strongly disagree.  Men can have complicated tastes as well.  Men can care about personality as well.

Women are bombarded by images of other women by the media constantly, but I don't think it's based on what men find attractive.  I think that for the most part, it's an attempt by corporations to create an idea of the perfect body.  Corporations have to sell their idea of a perfect body to women so that women then spend their money in an attempt to achieve that image.  It's about consumerism and selling products much more than it's about beauty.

The version of beauty that corporations sell is an image designed to make people feel uncomfortable, undesireable, and insecure.

jessica looks great even without makeup,
But i'm betting that Keeley doesn't.

Ha, I am willing to bet you have never seen her up close in real life. I am not sure how you can be so sure?

For the most part these faces you are seeing only look so great due to facial chemical peels, botox, and other products they use or operations they have. They start out with natural beauty but once making the big bucks strive to make themselves more attractive and throw away that natual beauty. Even your fair Jessica has been know to use/do some of the above.

Hehe, you really don't wanna get me started about this.

Yes, all men have inner-females - or an 'anima' - which allows them to empathise with females. Some have a stronger connection to their animas than others. That would be the difference between a real thugish sweatsuit-wearing guy, and a fashion-conscious cashmere-wearing metrosexual guy.

The concept of the Anima and Animus are very solid in psychology - it may be difficult to accept at first, but it actually makes a lot of sense.
Here's a few articles I found:
http://www.cnr.edu/home/bmcmanus/anima.html
http://www.lessons4living.com/anima_and_animus.htm
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anima_(Jung)

If you are rather distant from your anima you might not be able to comprehend exactly what it means to be close to it. One thing I found interesting was that what you find attractive is directly related to your own anima/animus' traits (respectively), supporting the theory that all humans are inherently narcissistic.

P.S.

Actually, Truth was referring to Jessica Alba.

I feel that you're referencing mental processes which are impossible to observe and only serve to reinforced preconceived ideas.  It's more likely that gender is simply a social construction.

Gender is defined by a heck of a lot more than society. Psychology is as valid as any other science - just like most everybody has a heart in the left of their chest, everybody also has an anima. It's quite possible to observe once you know what to look for. Of course, it's our attempt to explain something we don't fully understand, but it's something that definitely exists, and is incorporated successfully into psychological therapy, so it's obviously a valid theory.

Pschology is not a science, it's a humanity.  "Knowing what to look for" suggests a logical fallacy called "self fufilling prophesy".

Piaget's theories of education are evidence enough that much of psychology is anything but science.  It's my own opinion that psychology is more fundamentally flawed, but I'll stop at saying that it is a member of the humanities.  In terms of gender, different societies have very different views of gender, and that demonstrates that the definition of gender is social in nature.  Even looking at just our own society, we see that the definition of gender changes of time.  That's further evidence that a social perspective is the appropriate one.

I think I've caught all of them.

Anyway, most of the "without makeup" pictures are unflattering for other reasons as well. I think if the celebrities were to actually go out without putting makeup on, or copious amounts of makeup on, and not just be caught checking their mail or something, they'd look a fair bit better.
