There is no offline version of the game.  If you want to play you must connect to the public server.   You are able to build your own server, but keep in mind, npcs, everything database related, etc. will have to be recreated by you.  If you and your bro want to play at the same time, then the easiest way is to both connect to the public server.  If you are unable to share one internet connection with multiple home computers at the same time (dial-up) then I suggest getting cable internet, which will allow multiple computers to be connected at the same time.

then why would they miss lead by saying

"2.11.7. I'm a developer, and I want to test hacks or mods, may I do that?
You should never test hacks on an official server. Download the CVS version of the PlaneShift server and test your hacks or mods locally, on your private server. Then report to us your findings, you will be rewarded if you find any good hack and a solution to it.

Modifications to the client content (graphics, sounds, ...) are not allowed by PS License. In particular we will not tolerate players using mods to connect to an official server if those allow cheating, or modify the visual aspects of the game or its design. If you want to add levels or graphics to PlaneShift you are more then welcome to participate in our development."

that is located here by the way   C:\Program Files\PlaneShift Crystal Blue\guide\en\guide-cheating.html

There is a process involved in becoming a developer, it likely entails non-disclosure agreements and/or other legal documents

Fox, I don't see how that is misleading in any way. You can download the CVS (most recent) version of PlaneShift and run your own server, but it's not the "complete game" that you would have if you would connect to the official server. As Neko said, the NPCs, quests, rules, etc., are not public material and it would be a lonely world out there unless you can create it all yourself.

so you can't make a local server and play it just with 1 or 2 people and play around with all the abilities of a GM without affecting anyone else

Just a thought GM's don't use hardly aany of their abilities they have so many and i have never seen them use one of them...

... which makes you think why do they have them in the first place?  ???    ???    ???

Maybe you could be a little more specific about the GMs, please?

An offline version of PlaneShift is not available. You can have a local server and explore the maps, but that is pretty much all.

Look here and read what their are able to do but won't C:\Program Files\PlaneShift Crystal Blue\guide\en\reference-admin.html

I had a GM once tell me that they could make an item for me since mine glitched up and went under the floor but he won't because he didn't want to.

What's up with that?   ???  ???

I am a GM and a dev, so I am aware of the commands - however, GMs cannot give out items to people, and that's part of our rules. Just because some of us have the ability to create items doesn't mean that we have no guidelines. People do occasionally lose their items due to bugs - but it is just as easy to falsely claim that you lost something that way, and we have no way of verifying it. Take a look at this thread for some more information.

If you have an item stuck in the floor, you can always try the /target next nearest item command and follow it with /pickup.

Please don't overuse the text effects, it's really unnecessary. If you have a complaint about a GM, you can try contacting our team via IRC - server freenode, channel #planeshift-gmtalk. I think this is probably a misunderstanding of some sort.

*edit*

I don't think I said anything about shortcuts.

To do what you're asking for is possible but highly inconvenient and inevitably pointless.

Many things that are fun are also pointless, for example video games.  Running around Npcroom with a few buddies all with gm power when Laanx is down is pointless, yeah, but fun.  Spawning an army of a hundred dwarves is fun.  Experimenting with the test potions is fun, like the one that makes you spin around really fast.

Sorry for the short post; I am viewing the forums from my bedroom using the Wii version of Opera.

It's very much possible to do all that, if you compile yourself and run your own server. The key point is that you will only have the very basics - which isn't going to include quests, attackable spawning NPCs, and similar. NPCroom is highly overrated anyway.

What's inconvenient and pointless is wanting to ask for an official "fully-offline" version of PlaneShift - first because that would take the team's time away from MMO features, and second because that's not what this project is aiming for :)
