Well, nowadays that's implied... Christmas is now solely a commercialist holiday - the way it should be.

Christmas never really had anything to do with Christianity. Christ wasn't even born on Christmas... which was their only real claim to the holiday.

Imply? Me? Never... :P.

I don't think Christmas should be a commericalist holiday, I think it should be a pagan holiday. On a related note I saw a funny poster in my school the day we broke up it said "Christmas was the day Jesus's was born" and had this ADORABLE picture of a cartoon baby in a crib with two angelic pepole watching over it, I had this strange urge to rip it up...

Ya and your point? To start a debate? To not follow the forums rules?

Christmas is a man made event and it is about celebrating it with your family and giving to those you love. In this day in age I think alot of us appreciate that fact that this time of year can bring families together and take a break from the working world. As well as that special things happen like donations, helping those in need, and over all humanity taking some time to care about the world around them. Is that so bad? Who cares how christmas came about, at least it is the one time I can restore my faith in humanity.

In hindsight I do see that post as a bad idea now that you have pointed it out to me. I will also refrain from answering your questions as while it wasn't intentional I know that my responses can only bring conflict and I do not wish to do that.

Awww, now theres the christmas spirit!  ;) [BTW thanks seriously because I am sure it would have started a conflict big time. It was very thoughtful of you to not feed that fire.]

::sigh:: My point of making this thread was to bring about the unimaginable joy and love of Winter Solstice I have. Not to bring about and flame christmas. I have my own thoughts on christmas and keep them to myself. I'm mearly here to Celebrate Winter Solstice and to wish the greatest of happiness to those who are more inclined to it's celebration. Oh well...it was worth a try.

I will reiterate my apology, I am sorry and although I could try to make an excuse I will not. Now lets shunt this thread on topic with a little info about The Winter Solstice:

The Roman version involved untying the ropes of Saturn* (Kronos in Greek Mythology) for one week, he was if I remember bound up when Zeus took over (he forcibly ousted his dear father from his position.)

Aye, I concur. And the best thing is it's purely secular. Because of commercialism. I know Jews and Muslims who celebrate Christmas just because they want presents and food :P But it still brings the family together.

And the thing I think is the funniest is Christmas trees originated from Norse mythology, where they would massacre slaves and hang them off the branches of a massive evergreen tree to 'feed' Yggdrasil - the tree of life. It brings all new meaning to when people hang gingerbread men off their trees...

Not original, but it works...

Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit our best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low stress, non-addictive, gender neutral, celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasions and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all...

And a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling, and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2007, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures and without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith, choice of computer platform or sexual preference of the wishee.

(By accepting this greeting, you are accepting these terms.  This greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal. It is freely transferable with no alteration to the original greeting. It implies no promise by the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for her/himself or others, and is void where prohibited by law, and is revocable at the sole discretion of the wisher. This wish is warranted to perform as expected within the usual application of good tidings for a period of one year, or until the issuance of a subsequent holiday greeting, whichever comes first, and warranty is limited to replacement of this wish or issuance of a new wish at the sole discretion of the wisher.)

Yes!  I love it.

Actually, the notion of celebrating the Winter Solstice has always appealed to me.  I'd like to celebrate with a melange of winter holidays.  Christmas lights, traditional Jewish food, and all sorts of different appeals to the senses.  But whatever I end up doing, there will definately be an abundace of peppermint and chocolate. :woot:

Happy celebrations, everyone. \\o//
Music.  And then some.
