LibGL warning; ps crashes before startup
« on: December 25, 2006, 05:38:51 pm »
So, I moved to linux, after beeing my whole life on windows.
I installed PS, but when I try to run the updater this comes up (i'm using ubuntu 6.10):

lotko@lotko-ltk05:~/bin/planeshift$ ./updater
Opening GLX2D

libGL warning: 3D driver claims to not support visual 0x5a

Please tell me what to do, I'm a real newb here, and I would really like to play thi grat game like I used to ;)

*edit*

Noone knows?

oh... I was really looking forward to playing ps again. Those were the days, when I logged in started rpiing(a bit) and leveling up. Too bad it crashed on windows..
and it doesn't even want to run on ubuntu.. i'm such a lame person, uncapable of managing things under linux... :'(

:-\ 'those were the days my friend, we thought they'll never end...' when i played ps

Hi,

are you sure your drivers is installed right?
Try in your console,
glxgears
Maybe you have to install a package before.

If glxgears shows you three gears, then your opengl driver is right.

bye bert

I tried glgears and it didn't show much:

lotko@lotko-ltk05:~$ glxgears
libGL warning: 3D driver claims to not support visual 0x5a
DRM_I830_CMDBUFFER: -22

I guess I have to install them.. Thanks for your help!

ok ok ok, from someone who builds computer towers, the first line of programming that caught my eye was "Opening GL....." what this is saying (I am not certain to the Linux system, because I have a friend who is Linux oriented, I personally am Windows oriented, only two people in my past have been able to hack the pc's I build, and I've been building pc's 5 years now, aint tryin to brag, just saying, this friend who builds computers and installs Linux, has been wondering how come his pc's crash more then mine, we've come up with a series of reasons, now I do not know I'll call up my friend, to figure it out, but it's 1:30am here, so I aint callin him, but on a windows operaiting system, YOU NEED TO SHUT OFF YOUR OPENGL PROGRAMMING!!!! (stretches) the planeshift server, automatically starts, on OpenGL, if you have PS on your pc, you have OpenGL on it, (thats the shortcut of what I am trying to say) shut down OpenGL if you have it installed, that should fix the problem

Description of similar (or the same) problem can be found there -> https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/mesa/+bug/66645 (folow the provided link to debian bugs). Either you have to update your system (especially mesa packages) or get sources of mesa packages and recompile them according to instructions in above location(s).
