GM Event - "Sword Theft"
« on: January 09, 2007, 05:49:14 am »
The GM endorsed event "Sword Theft" was written by Karyuu. Three GM's participated in the event, Rayken, Caarrie, and Mektar. In the event a female Enkidukai named Wytlina is indiscreetly looking around for a band of thieves in Hydlaa to help her steal a sword from a Kran named Vynnelden who is a guard in a Bronze Door tower. Wytlina has wanted this sword for a long time but Vynnelden is too strong for her to overwhelm him alone. The event  was completed successfully and had about 8 participants. It was rather hard to find enough evil characters for the event.

I would greatly appreciate any feedback from the events participants. Feel free to tell us what we did right and what we did wrong. Suggestions on how to improve future events are welcome. :)

I didn't know at the time you were looking for evil characters, I enjoyed this event is was played out very well and lasted a while. The ones who did a /die annoyed me though i ran my backside off  :D Great job!

Vigel, Lorina and a few others on being requested to find a sword by Wytlina Bac embark on a journey to the Bronze Door Fortress. On there arrival they are met by Vynnelden, he shouts down to know who we are with an angry tone,As a group we climb his watch tower and surround him.
In his hand he bears a sword,It is immensely well crafted and the full group can't take there eyes off it.The group tries to persuade him to hand it over by offering tria and other weapons until he finally settles for an ulbernaut fur and 5 apples.

The group has a talk and heads there seperate ways an leave one or two with the guard,Half of the group who left head to Hydlaa for fresh apples and the other half to the ruins to kill the mighty ulbernaut. After sometime the objects are gathered and took to Vynnelden who gladly hands over the sword. The group heads back to Hydlaa to see Wytlina to collect there reward.

On arrival to Wytlina she is happy to the sword but is met with greed by the group, she offers tria to the group and is swiftly turned down time after time,After nearly thirty minutes of haggling and a bargain was made, the tria was handed to the group and Wytlina got the sword she had asked us to steal.

Gharan, that is an excellent description of how the event unfolded. I'm also very happy you enjoyed taking part in it. :)

BTW: I played the Kran guard named Vynnelden. :D

Whoever played Wytlina i hope we didn't give you to much of a hard time but so many shady characters simply wouldn't hand over a sword so valuable.  :)

EDIT:And thumbs up for RP aimed at the "evil" characters

That was I.  And no problem, it was perfectly in character.  I actually enjoyed that part :D  Wytlina proved to be a really fun character to play, especially during that bargaining bit at the end.
Thanks for your feedback, Gharan!

If it was large-scale, an IC announcement on the forums would've popped up. Something this small though is not worth it - normally you should expect GM events at any time and in any place. They are in-game events, after all.
Judge: Are you trying to show contempt for this court, Mr Smith?
Smith: No, My Lord. I am attempting to conceal it.

And i'd personally send EL and our 10-15 members to your GM events.
If you want more people, and you want more fun, maybe an announcement could accomplish it?

And would it hurt, to make a single post?
Probably not.

Again, to each his own, if a small event is what you would like, at any given time, than there is no problem with it.

But if your aiming for something bigger, an announcement might help.

I don't see where there was a plea to have more people involved or comments on it not being fun because there wasn't enough people? This thread was started to ask for feedback on a certain event ran by three Gm's remember? They wanted to hear some feedback from those who DID participate in the event.

If we Gm's have a large event we are planning, then we know to come to the forums Daturth. Everyone knows that who uses the forums. Sometimes we choose not to post an event and sometimes we choose to post. It is the right of the person who wrote the event to choose which. If it is small events we don't announce them but spring it on the players for fun and surprize. That is the way it works.

I think that event would've been awful with to many people. It would have been quite unrealistic.

Do you think a large amount of people would bother themselves with one person wanting to steal a sword? People want to steal swords everyday. Why don't I see clashes over it every day with large amounts of people involved? That would be unrealistic. Its an everyday occurence and it would be both unbelieveable and unrealistic and I go further to say OOC for lots of people to get involved.

I've found, the best in game events, are announced.

Not nessesarily true. Your looking at all events as planned. I'd much rather constantly RP as much as possible and let events spontaneously happen out of that rather than OOCly concieve of a way to get my character involved in something interesting.

I suggest the statue of Laanx gets turned into a statue of Parallo <3. An NPC could never replace the huge hole he left in my heart when he died  :'(

I took part and any more than 10 would of been ridiculous we had fun as a group of 7 or 8 and the RP went great imo.

They would for a huge reward. That isn't unrealistic. You offer a million dallors for the first person to get back a stolen item in the RL world and you better bet your ass people will be stumbling over themselves to be the first to aquire it.

I guess it all depends on the situation whether or not it is realistic. I mean a small nobody in Yliakum .... ya, I am thinking not many would care to help. However if it was an important person with a major status in Yliakum then people will be more than willing to offer a helping hand for reasons of their own ... whether it be to gain fame, trias, or a solid status in yliakum.

More GM events is the answer to everyone wanting a post before hand because they feel left out.

My thoughts exactly, hence my preference for smaller, un-announced events.

We're working on it :D

I've heard of duplicate threads, but duplicate questions within a thread?

I'm sorry to say friend, that is true, no unplanned GM event has ever parrallelled a planned Player or GM event.

It's just as simple as, giving people heads up, to go online and free there time.
I mean i'm in game alot... a whole lot..... but even i'd miss some GM events, which i might make if they were announced.

But this was a different type of event, as mentioned, that needed to be small, so an announcement wasn't necessary.
