I'd much prefer this small event in which one can be intimitly involved than a huge one where your just a face. I think your equating size with quality which is absurd.
I suggest the statue of Laanx gets turned into a statue of Parallo <3. An NPC could never replace the huge hole he left in my heart when he died  :'(

I'm sorry to say friend, that is true, no unplanned GM event has ever parrallelled a planned Player or GM event.

It's just as simple as, giving people heads up, to go online and free there time.

What definition of "planned" are you using, exactly? Every GM event has to be planned, simply because it needs Talad's approval. There is no such thing as a spontaneous GM event that a couple of people randomly decide to run out of nowhere.

@Akaye:
I'm really not sure that Datruth's message was that they didn't have fun, one of his best psbuddies said it was fun... I merely think he was offering his help... just like you are when you are a gm

as for the event, it looks to have turned out pretty well, an unexpected thing took part that gm's haven't foreseen making it even better (teh evil guys not wanting to hand over the sword.)
I've heard of duplicate threads, but duplicate questions within a thread?

I've found, the best in game events, are announced.

Not nessesarily true. Your looking at all events as planned. I'd much rather constantly RP as much as possible and let events spontaneously happen out of that rather than OOCly concieve of a way to get my character involved in something interesting.

I mean i'm in game alot... a whole lot..... but even i'd miss some GM events, which i might make if they were announced.

But this was a different type of event, as mentioned, that needed to be small, so an announcement wasn't necessary.

~~Datruth

I've made spontaneous events, they worked out pretty well... Parallo joined one of them and liked it :] as well as the other 10->15 persons Who was in the tavern or around.
You just need a backstory

I totally foresaw that :P How can you gather a band of less-than-nice characters and not expect at least a tiny mutiny?

...I didn't.  Though in hindsight it was pretty dumb of me not to expect it.

OMG!! Are you serious... of course you are, but why? No wonder there are so few GM events that ive seen, ive been involved in two (as far as I can remember). I dont want to repeat what has been said in another curent thread (actually I do) but why is it that Talad cant delegate? Surely he has trust in the GMs to make them GMs, why cant he atleast trust them to make GM events on their own?

It is not that talad does not trust us it is a matter of we need enough gms available to run an event not many events can be run with less them 3 gm's so it takes time to get them together to run the event and set it up.

The actual point is that the event has to be in-line with the settings, and rewards have to be given the OK by developers. Can't have GMs giving out an extravagant amount of PP or items that aren't supposed to be out in the community yet, and by having event approval there's a way of checking that everything is as it should be.

The approval process itself is not what we are currently struggling with, but rather what Illori stated. It's a different subject though.

The problem is not that there are not enough GMs. It is that the 'nifty tools' they use are limited, as well as the client. Logging in with a normal client and only being able to contol one character, NPC, or creatue at a time, while not being able to set up any trips, triggers, or what-not is a bad way to GM. It is -hard- to set up and control an event. Starcraft has a better scripting system, and it isn't even an RPG. GMs are supposed to be Dungeon Master types. A DM sees the entire 'board' and 'story' at once, not through a single character's eyes. That is what the rest of us are supposed to be doing.

With the proper system, I can answer the questions of "How many people?"  One person to set it up, one, or even no one to run it.

Though, I guess I am not the one to ask, as I see 'events' as lasting weeks or months, not hours. I would not even think of starting one that lasted less than two weeks. Not that it matters anymore.

Well  if you need ideas hear is one of the top of my head.

 1. player one. walks into plaza says could someone help me, I have lost my family ring. reply if some one responds, I last noticed it on my finger by the lake just past the green tunnel on way to BD, I had stopped to cool my feet in the lake, under a tree. (give 200 tria for expenses)

 2. player two. stood by lake, if asked about a ring, or someone appearing to be searching for something, yes I did see someone, he asked me did I know of any one who new about rings, I sent him to the ruins the other side of this tunnel, to the right. I was there yesterday and a was talking to (player 3).

 3. player 3. if asked about a ring say yes I brought one off someone today.(offers to sell ring for 200 tria).(Dark ring).

 4. up to player, does he keep ring or give it to player 1.?

 5. 1000 tria reword for getting ring back.

There is a quick example of a simple quest, that can be done with 3 players.

Datruth, I think this is more what Karyuu was hopping for a example of a event run by you.
Glad to help.

In my opinion player events WITH GM help are the best, ive seen it done many times before and it works brilliantly, especialy if the GM doesnt tell the player they are going to do somthing and you have like a 'Woah... nice' moment.

What I have seen in game is a lot of players who are getting bored and hang around hoping for an event. More GM events would be great but let's not trash what events are going on.

There should be room enough for both RP and OOC events and players can decide whether or not to participate. Not having much time to be on myself I applaud the people who are able to put an rp event together. Maybe Talad would allow a test period where he would let the GM's demonstrate (if they have the time and inclination) what they could do on their own?

well.. rememeber that players host events to. like me.. i got a nice event commin (link is in the sig) or the battle event (slaver rp) its not that not enought gm events are made.. its the lack of ppl that a) dont know about it.. or b) dont care about it  ::| surprising i know :).

the gms have enough to do with out having to take crap from the players for not host 20 events a month. if your bored.. then a) start an event or b) join an event or c) stop playing..

dont give the gms crap cuz they dont have enough events.. sure.. i would love to be in one but ya dont see me asking the gms about it..

[hehe.. sorry bout the seemly advertisment of my event  :sweatdrop: ]
