Well, 2 days to go.
The YWL fell apart at the seams after a few lil' tweaks to the combat system.
So, the majority of people were put off continuing.
As a result, rankings based on overall games won will be grossly unfair.
------
At the end of the competition, everyone (including those who left), will be assigned a point score based on the number of games they have won.
Anyone defeating that person will then be given that point score.
For instance, I've won 16 fights... anyone who had beaten me will be given 16 points.
This, to some degree, helps add 'weight' to calculations for average scores and should make scoring fairer.
I'm going to release the scores and tables in a number of formats but ultimately, I will have to judge who came where overall. ( I won't include myself in ranking for prizes though )
------
I can only offer my apologies to those who invested a lot of time and effort into the competition intitially and wish to thank those of you who took time out to help with entering scores, etc. I've certainly got faith in the community and have made a few friends from ths competition. (mostly OOC but a few IC... and the OOC relationships can be used in future for organising roleplay events, etc.)
So, sorry it was a bit of balls-up, and thank you for your efforts, your perserverence and interest.
Maybe we'll try again sometime... but next time, I'll be checking with the devs to see if they plan to make any fundamental changes to pvp combat.
To Zanzibar and others who've been againt the old combat system and "putting dueling on a pedestal"... I'm sorry you've felt that way and I'm sure you cringed at the sight of this thread... probably seeing it as devaluing PS in terms of RP. --- Well, it was never meant to devalue anything, it was just meant to be competitive and fun... and that was the whole point of the competition... I noticed people regularly meeting up for duel practice in DR and figured we could do something fun with that crowd... that was all. (No intent to 'destroy the game' or anything!)
NOTE: I'm not looking for an argument or debate over the merits of it.. I'm just stating our only intent was to have a bit of fun.. nothing more, nothing less.
And Karuu, Vengeance, devs, gm's.. please know it was NEVER about button-bashing and using lag for those of us in the YWL.. (button bashing caused push-back bug... which was typically a drawback in a duel -- We also avoided duels when the server was laggy.. with some dueling in different areas to reduce lag for all involved.)
Dueling was more about using the 2 second delay from starting an attack.. to striking (if using swords)... and being able to judge other peoples movements based on their stance change so you could see when they were likely to come in for a hit. -- It did rely on player-skill, but not in any more of an excessive way than the existance of groffeltoe seems to suggest is acceptable!!
That said... I do welcome a new combat system.. as long as it one where the player can still give guidance and have inputus in tactics... I know we should be more dependant on the character-skill but let's not make dueling a passive, dull experience essentially based on nothing more than stats and die rolls. --- As that's not fun, unique or interesting.
Anyway, I don't want to deviate too much!!... (and I personally have got used to the changes... I just don't want it to devolve into something where players have no control or guidance over their char.)
---
Back on topic...
Scores and ranks will be posted in the next 5-10 days.
Thanks.. and congrats to Tungor.. He's already got first place 'in the bag'.

Peace!!
