Checking/updating my video card
« on: January 21, 2007, 03:02:22 am »
i have a video card... WOW
but i cant seem to find out what sort it is or nething about it.
on the start menu theres a little icon which says intel(R)Greaphics technology but all i can acomplish with that is changing colours and turning the screen upside down (which is cool)
when i played WoW in the video options it said something about Nvidia which might be the video card i have.
but every  computer (about 3) ive played wow on has said that.

the video card i have it good enough but i was going to try to update it and need some help finiding out what sort it is thanks.

Type dxdiag into your Run command, and take a look at the Display tab.

This isn't an actual graphics card, unfortunately. 48MB is very low, and doesn't even meet PlaneShift's minimum requirements... :}

It's integrated as opposed to dedicated. Basically it means that it lacks many of the features that a lot of games need, and shares resources with the rest of the PC. But it can run things :)

Hm, found this. Since it's from Intel, head over to this page and see if you can find a driver newer than your current.

You've either the IntelĀ® 845G Chipset, or the GL :] Sure there are no more details on that Display window?

How about if you right-click anywhere on your desktop, hit Properties, and then look at the Settings tab?

On the Settings tab, what I wanted you to look for was some information about your graphics. Like:

It's always better to install drivers that are for your hardware :P Any way you can take a screenshot of the dxdiag screen?

If it helps, dxdiag never did work for me (probably the windows install, it's missing a few bits), so I get my graphics information from device manager. Control panel > System > Hardware > Device manager > Display Adapters > your card, right click, properties.

(Now someone will tell me there's a much quicker route :p I don't use windows much.)

Not really, no. Have you tried Kiiranni's suggestion?
