Bartholin, I thought I made it clear that this was the opposite of what I actually think, by encapsulating it in the pseudo-tags "<TJPM blah>".
I don't know about the particular circumstances of the issues you cited, though even if these players would have originally been right in disliking you, the way they seem to be going about this, if your observations are accurate, is very wrong. In any case, I think that your experiences support the view that hidden alts are causing much more trouble than good.
I don't know what to make of you "only being a jerk OOCly if one gets on your bad side", though. Depends on what it takes, as well as what "being a jerk" actually means, I suppose.
Changing your main character still seems like an extreme measure to me. After all, this clearly is harassing and GMs can easily spot and sort it out, especially if you use /report. People have been banned for less...
Now, to keep our resident attention whore / refined troll happy:
There are people that Seytra really really hates OOC, and it infuriates him that he could be RPing with them without knowing it.
I'm sorry, but you're really exaggregating your importance once again (I know, you'll say that you didn't necessarily refer to you, while the general implication of your wording clearly hints at or at least includes you - I expect nothing less). I don't actually hate anyone here.
Granted, you are the one whom I dislike most, if that makes you feel important. I think that you are an attention whore and highly refined troll, as stated. And this is what makes you annoying, and untrustworthy, and naturally I want to avoid you. But that's it already.
He wants to know the real life identity of every character so that he can avoid them if he doesn't like the player behind the character (for whatever inane asinine ignorant pig headed vindictive reason he comes up with).
Hehe, thank you, Zanzibar. Obviously your desire to incite anger broke through your shiny mask of finely crafted phrases that keeps people from seeing you as the troll and attention whore that you are.
I don't care about the RL identity of players, as I have stated in my other "rants". I merely wish to be able to associate alts with their main char(s).
Of course, there are those who would do more than just ignore characters controlled by players they don't like. Some people might even get all their friends and guildmates to ignore such characters. And some people might actively try to interfere with or sabotage such characters. Ah, but such things are beyond Seytra's comprehension it seems.
However, there might also be people who create hidden alts specifically to harm others, gain personal information to later turn against someone, invade and maybe take over guilds, artificially create masses to fake support for something, etc.. I've witnessed "people actively try to interfere with or sabotage characters" even without actual reason. And guess what? Alts were used to do so.
Interestingly, the experiences Bartholin is citing also supports my view of the use (or rather, misuse) of alts, not yours.
Then again, if these players are so prone to turn on you at the slightest misunderstanding, wouldn't it be the best and least troublesome approach to just avoid them? After all, alt or not, there is bound to be trouble...
However, since it was
your "character", Shalmaneser, who once upon a time infiltrated a guild, solely for the purpose of starting a guild war with a guild that you, Zanzibar, OOC-ly, disliked (because you didn't like one (or two?) of their higher up's) (even if not by using an alt), this sort of thing naturally seems to be no concern to you, and in fact to be "good RP", as you have repeatedly stated.
This in turn makes me wonder if
you are not one of those "who would do more than just ignore characters controlled by players they don't like. Some people might even get all their friends and guildmates to ignore such characters. And some people might actively try to interfere with or sabotage such characters."...?
To me, I think Seytra is largely concerned about revenge. It begs the question.... someone must have really hurt him in his past for him to be so bitter. Ah, but such topics aren't appropriate for a public forum.
Zanzibar, Zanzibar, Zanzibar. When will
you learn that it's not about revenge, it is about protecting my RP (short, medium and long-term), and not wasting time on RP that is doomed due to incompatible views on what RP is. In order to want revenge, you would first need to have had something done to you. And, even in case this disappoints you, being annoying on the forum doesn't make me wish to take revenge on you. However, I can't speak for you, obviously.
This in turn makes
me wonder why you want these hidden alts so badly? After all, if you, as player, are as good a person as you pretend to be (which clearly enables you to sort out all your OOC problems with other players in a proper way outside the game), and if you, as player, have such a great skill to be able to adapt your RP to whatever player you may encounter, while at the same time maintaining coherency in your RP without making it shallow, then clearly there is no need for a secret alt at all?
Aww look, so much text, wasted just for you. I truly love the way you sprinkle misleading statements and implications all over your posts. I know that I shouldn't have replied to your post, because that's exactly what you wanted. I would even feel honoured that a reply of mine is so important to you that you lose control of your masquerade, if you would actually matter (and if you weren't whoring for
any reply). I guess you did a really good job at your abusive craft this time. I would give you an award, but...
