What no reports of eternal Tanelorn for you the eternal Champion to retire to when you have saved the day? How disappointing. I can't recall if I have ever played any of the versions, I get it confused with the nintendo series about Link one of which had something to do with a potato flute (Ocarina of Time). FF isn't really the same is it?

The Legend of Zelda? Never liked those games... But Final Fantasy is hella different. For one, there's a decent story to them all :P

So it is more like the Elder Scrolls? (Oblivion and precursors)

I bought FFXII figuring it wouldnt be very good.. but I was a bit surprised.. I really like the battle system and they basically brought back the sphere grid which I thought was the best thing about FFX.. The story is a little lame at first, but it gets better throughout the game.  I only have like 32 hours right now and it seems to be getting better.  I would buy it again.

As far as i know the battle system if very different then the one in Oblivion, which is first person shooter kinda like, FF more turn based.
And from what I can remember from FFVII FF has much longer conversations. And you have multiple persons/creatures in a party which travels with you.
And it's more like you're part of a story, and in Oblivion you are the story.

No, it's even more different to Oblivion. It'd take hours to describe Final Fantasy, they're some of the longest, most in-depth games ever made...

And they have the coolest characters ever:

I do love Final Fantasy man.. but it is overrated.. It does have some cool characters.. but really how good was FFVII?  I went back through it not too long ago and I was thinking most of the time that this game isnt nothing compared to how I remember it.  Really I love FF 1,4,6 and well thats about it.. I liked 7 but 8 went downhill and 9 was a joke.. I think 12 is the best one since 7 atleast... they did a pretty good job this time around.  10 had some good things too.

Same with you Neko, FF1 is a brutal representation of what Final Fantasy is...

I only have 1 console.  It is very old.

If you are willing to buy me the consoles that will play the rest of the series, then I'll play them.  :)

I don't play games out of order.

You'll have to get me those consoles to play 2-6 first.   :P

Psch, you're so hard to please :P

Besides, the whole point of Final Fantasy is that they aren't in an order. It makes no difference whatsoever what order you play them in.

I went 7, 8, 10, 6, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 9  (I got bored with 9, just finished it recently...)

Well, I never signed a contract, but you get the idea.   ;)

According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_Fantasy, Final Fantasy was named so because it was to be the game designer's last game before going into retirement.  I'd heard that the same was true for Square, that they were bankrupt and that this was to be their last effort, but according to this article that's not the truth.  I want to touch on a couple of points:

FF1 rocked as far as games could at the time.  It was insanely hard and the gameplay sucked.  There was no storyline or characters.  But hey.

FF6 was far better but i never finished it.

FF7 is generally regarded as the best video game yet, and I certainly don't disagree.

FF8 ruled too, though i never quite finished it.  IMO, Squall is a much better character than cloud.

Guess I've already talked about X.  X2 was alright, mostly it was yeah, what emerald said.  I never finished it, but I still plan to.  There might be other games that accomplish the same thing better, but i'm somewhat attached to the Rikku and Yuna characters.
And the sphere grid rocks, I'm glad it's (sort of) back in XII.
