Client o18 under Windows Vista
« on: February 09, 2007, 07:28:42 pm »
Hello everyone,

I'm useing Windows Vista Home Premium and I'm not able to run PS under it.  :( (On the about part of the main site vista is "official" suported as PS able OS)

The problem: On the top of the PS windows there is  a text, "No hardware accrelation", I know there was something with windows vista and that it doesn't support open gl anymore, but than it's should not be on the list of supported systems, (I really hope I can get it work under vista, I also have xp in a dualboot but everytime chang the OS isn't really fine)...

But probably it has something to do with the graphic drivers (my graphiccard: asus Extreme AX 300SE/TD 128MB PCI-Express),... (I never had problems with it under win xp sp2)

If someone can help me I would be very happy , thanks Eletiy

btw. I really like the new style of the mainsite

It works fine for me on Vista, so it's probably a problem with Vista support for your hardware, not a problem with Vista compatibility with PS. Check on the ATI website (http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/vista32/common-vista32.html) for the latest Vista drivers for your card. Also, OpenGL is supported under Vista. Both ATI and nVidia have native support for it in their drivers.

Xordan you seem like you know it all and this makes me very happy  :D .I have the same problem with Windows Vista. I'm running windows Vista Home Premium but it is the 64x2 1.8G processor Ati 1150 express with 128 Megs of Ram on the card and an additional 2 gigs of ram. I updated the Drivers (not knowing at all what i was doing) with my fingers crossed by installing a Crystal (something) Installer. It said on the AtI.AMD.com website that i would be downloading the 7.2 version but after installing it it comes up as version 8.0.4 or something like that.  I have no clue what driver i need or what Bridge Accelerator i need these terms in the world of Vista mean nothing to me.  Dell although i have begged will not send me a version of win XP even though the computer is 2 days old (how upsetting is that end of rant). I know you can fix this i've seen your posts all over this Site.  So i leave it up to your very very very capeable hands and I thank you in advance for your assistance.

Please excuse my writing i spell and write everything Fanetically i am Dislexic

Has anyone had any luck with the following in running PS:

------------------
System Information
------------------
Operating System: Windows Vista™ Home Premium
System Manufacturer: LENOVO
Processor: Genuine Intel(R) CPU           T2060  @ 1.60GHz (2 CPUs), ~1.6GHz

---------------
Display Devices
---------------
Card name: Mobile Intel(R) 945GM/GU Express Chipset Family
Manufacturer: Intel Corporation
Chip type: Intel(R) GMA 950
Display Memory: 224 MB

Most recent available driver installed from Intel.

The game loads but I get extensive flickering and the inability to interact with tool bars, menus, chat window, etc.  Character body parts disappear and reappear.

I don't have any troubles, because I follow Becta's initial recommendation about not upgrading to Windows Vista(before MS handed them some bucks to say they were wrong):

http://publications.becta.org.uk/download.cfm?resID=28199

Microsoft doesn't care about develping Windows to become stable enough, they always roll them on the market with flaws, then release all those "Service Packs", Windows Vista is all about graphics and resources hogging, so if I either have to upgrade or be obsolete... I will gladly delete Windows XP from my  dual boot machine and keep only with Linux ;).

i was going to suggest if you are still having issues with the vista and ps to use the right click and start it under admin
thats what i had to do for the forst 3 starts to ps
i would get to the loading screen and it crashed
but this is because of the uap feature
user account protection
It wont let anything directly access the core directory ie c:/program files/planeshift.exe
usually this is where the problem lies
also if ps seems buggy in vista go to your display settings and disable the Aero  graphix engine and go to basic aero
This makes ps more stable
i am experimenting on the client my self to make the client work well in the aero settings
I will keep posted on my sucesses or failures
for those intrested
i only posted this so that if some one else faced some issues with vista and compatibility they may have a place to start looking
if all else fails feel free to pm me and i will do what i can to help get back up and running
it took me a few hours to figure out the issues i was having but i am fully up and going
Also if it is a connection issue minimise your ps and you might find a message asking if you want to allow connection to ps
just say yes and you will be up and going
i hope this has helped some
Vista is not a bad opperating system it is just new
with new consepts
and great safety maybe too much safety
Good luck

Go to the following website http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html, the go to windows vista 64 or 32 bits addtion, then go to intergrated/motherborad, radeon xpress 1150.  It would give you the lateest verson on their site and the verson listed is not always the one that is for download, they may have just updated it.

paheiyo that sounds to me like a driver issue as well.  I am not familiar really with vista yet and I know they changed where to view video card properties, so I can't give you xp instructions and hope they help as they would be useless.  In fact I'm not even certain where the hardware manager in vista is.  If you can find the hardware manager (probably somewhere in vistas new horrific control panel) then your video card manufacture will be listed under "Display Adapters".  Once you get the information, try locating the correct, most up to date drivers for that particular card, installing them, rebooting, then seeing if your problem improves.

UPDATE:  I dropped the driver down to Intel's XP driver for my card and PS works fine.  Of course I lose the Aero features of Vista....but that is the least of my concerns.
