Could we see the combine button on tables and furnaces etc..  in the windor rather in the main selection.  One this is just easier so you can keep an eye on things while combining to make stock or daggers or whatever it is your doing.

for instance if you right click the furnace the combine button is there.  Then if you click on to look at the furnace it will bring up slots to put the items your combining.  I was asking to put the combine button there.  so that way you dont have to exit out of the inventory screen of the furnace

You don't actually need to exit the examine window, you can right-click on the furnace and use the combine option with the furnace still open, I believe. I do agree it would be nice to have the combine button in the examine window.

That is true but when it finishes the steel stock appears if you just wait. Of course it has been a while for me and things may have changed. I used to do this and start several going, put iron and coal in, combine, put more iron and coal in, remove sludge from previous step, combine, return sludge and work on two stocks at the same time. The reason for removing the sludge was to prevent the bad combination error message when doing the second combine I even manged to do three combines on the odd occasion. just keep your stacks of sludge separate and you should be ok, but as I said things may have changed.
