This could be a problem.
« on: February 12, 2007, 04:04:09 am »
While installing:

"""
Error opening file for writing:

C:\Program Files\Planeshift Crystal Blue\msvcr71.dll

Click Abort to stop the installation,
Retry to try again, or
Ignore to skip this file.
"""

Now what?

Make sure nothing is running in your memory that shouldn't be, easiest way to fix is to reboot the PC.

Then try to install again.  If it doesn't work, repeat above with a new install package. (as in re-download the client install package again) and try to install again.

It helps if you list what steps you have already taken to try to fix the issue when you ask for help.

When you downloaded it, did you try the same method every time, or did you try the other method?

That is, if you downloaded it through bittorrent, try downloading it through a direct link.

If nothing is working, you can try waiting for the mirrors to be updated and try to use the updater.  But that isn't setup at this time, I don't believe.

and what else do you have running?
if the md5 of the install file checks out you've got a good file give or take about 6 sigma.

i'm going to raise security software higher on the list of culprits now. try disabling them for a bit a see what happens.

I download it through Mirror 1 because my computer does weird things with bittorrent. I disabled my security software before downloading.

Using the mirrors, I have downloaded several times, with the same result.

I've not been running anything else while downloading.

it isn't the download. it is the install that i was thinking of. you disabled the security software then installed?

The exact same thing happened to me, until I disabled my security software, then it worked fine,

And what about if you simply skip the file for now, complete the installation and then:

http://www.uploading.com/files/FUXV03VT/msvcr71.dll.html

you get the file from there, and put it right away inside your PS folder?

Today rapidshare was doing  weird things to me, so I had to use this other storage service found through google. Hope it is of service, anyway.
