Website Resource Kit
« on: February 16, 2007, 10:09:31 pm »
I would love to see a website creation kit that offers rendered images of each race and gender in various poses. Renders of Weapons found throughout the game and even a few renders of key areas of interest like the magic shop Harns shop the temple entrance ect. This is something I personally would love to work on but I can't find any object files of the characters or weapons ect.. I guess I could just use Screenshots in the game but you lose so much in image quality. Well just an Idea. Thanks for such a great game.

I don't quite get why you need it and why you call it website creation kit.

This kit is basicly used to create guild websites. Currently the guild I belong to has a website but the layout and theming of the site has nothing to do with PS. Having said images would allow web designers the ability to photoshop some Site headers and site themes. I know of a couple other online games that offer kits like this to help push the guilds/clans online communication.

I think semara might be asking for a "Fan Site Kit".

Well, there is none, but you can do all the stuff by yourself ;) Including rendering and getting the textures for some website borders or whatever. Only the whole stuff is copyrighted, so ask Talad, or someone for permission if you are going to base your site heavily on the imgame art.

That's where the idea of a "Fan Site Kit" comes in. It traditionally comes with its own ToS and resources that have been approved for fan sites, so there are no legal issues with using copyrighted material. :)

You don't need to ask anyone permission to use any graphics for a PlaneShift fan site. Thus, you're free to create your own graphics ;)
Judge: Are you trying to show contempt for this court, Mr Smith?
Smith: No, My Lord. I am attempting to conceal it.

semara,

Just to give a clearer explanation, I believe you are free to use PlaneShift art for personal use only, such as a fan or a guild site. In other words in a noncommercial context.

Many gaming companies release a dedicated "Fan Site Kit" with its own license and ToS because they

  • want to approve anything fan site related in advance and don't allow unique art assets not included in a kit without express permission
  • help the fans who are not experienced web designers by including various templates along with the resources
  • all of the above

PlaneShift 'art' folder contains a README file that refers to PlaneShift License. This is the part from that license that covers personal use:

3. You may use the provided Material, for personal use only...

You are probably not allowed to modify the material but you may want to email Atomic Blue to clarify it.

There you go. :)
