Guild Ranking structure change and alliance chat
« on: February 17, 2007, 05:57:03 pm »
1) There should be an option to use a tree-system for guild ranks.  What I mean is instead of having the usual 1 --> 2 --> 3....-->9 ranks, you could select an option to have ranks 1a, 2a, 3a, ... 9,  1b, 2b, 3b,...9 and 1c, 2c, 3c...9 .  Why? This would give some guilds a better structure.  You could have crafters have a different set of ranks than magicians and melee fighters.  If you try to do this now, each "tree" [ie. caster, fighter, crafter, etc] would only have about 2 ranks in each, which doesn't give a lot of diversity in who has more authority than who.

2) alliance chat window.  This would help so much.  Then in the permissions perhaps have a check off of who is allowed to use it.  It is very annoying trying to group with all of your allies when you want to speak with your whole alliance, and /tells just doesn't work.

Which one are you?

My two cents: A "Know other members names and numbers" permission that could be disabled would be very useful for secret guilds "initiate" type of ranks among many other utilities.

If alliances are supposed to be IC, then an alliance chat would be disruptive.  Guild chats are already disruptive but they're a necessary evil and even a part of the OOC community experience.

As far as guild structure goes, you can define it any way you choose by describing the ranks in your guild thread.  You could have 9 ranks which are all on equal footing, or you could have 9 ranks fanned out as you describe.  It's just a matter of describing it to people so they know how to interpret the numbers.

Yes, the guild channel is ooc, yes, the group channel is ooc and so would be alliance chat. We use group chat for communication when we or on journed, to be sure everyone who are supposed to be near hear. We use it to cut off other messages in other channels. They help our RP. The only bad side is when we separate from the community, while they should hear what we say. But it all comes to how you use these channels.
Yes, we are supposed to RP all the time while in PS, but one have to be blind, that a guild is not only about RP. What keep the guild in one piece is also friendship of the players behind their characters. The guild chat helps in this, near few other functions.
That is why i would be happy to see alliance chat as well. Look at what DE did. They are one guild, but now they are technically a few. The communication beatween players is harder.

When we form an allaince with a guild, for each there should be a checkbox if we want to share with them our guild chat. Then they also mark the box, the guild chat is shared for both, or three, or more. The more guilds, the more combinations who hear what. It is up to alliances guilds to decide. This would be really nie addition. Not completly new chat tab, but ability to share yout guild chat with other allainced guilds.

What you can failure tommorow, failure today.
