« on: February 18, 2007, 06:48:55 pm »
This doesn't really look like the screenshots. I'm running an Nvidia fx5500. It's not THAT bad of a card, but maybe it is. Here's a screenshot..please let me know if this looks right. thanks!

Well, I'm running this in linux and that's a recent driver. So I'm assuming this doesn't look right?

no, definitely not right. Go to the nvidia website and get the latest driver, see if it helps. It could just be a texture problem. But try the driver for now.

Run the setup (pssetup) and check your "Texture downsampling" is set to "1/1" (slider tottaly left)

It was my XGL interfering. I've since started it without XGL and it runs perfectly (nonXgl script from ubuntuforums).

One more question, do I want to have the sliders all the way to the left or right in the setup to have the best possible
graphics from the game. I'll then compensate for my lack of video card if need be. Thanks for all the help!!!

Just looks black to me except for the windows, the pointer, and a little bit of grass at the top...

You want 1/1 not 1/16

I installed the ati drivers

Buy a Nvidia card... seriously I changed back to Nvidia from a failry good radeon due to ATI's complete lack
of usability in any OS other that microsofts I was messing round with thier proprietry drivers and the free
ones for 2 weeks and in the end said my time was more valuable and I had bought a new card 4 times over
in the hours I had spent on it. Nvidias drivers will *generally* work right out of the box for all distro's ATI only
support the corp distros i.e. RH, Suse (now owned by Novell), and some "limited" support for debian.

But if that is not an option ATM try and make sure your card is configured correctly. see ATI's Support section for linux
